Lieberman: “Netanyahu Should Suffer In Gehinnom Every Day”

Yisrael Beiteinu head Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday morning said that “Netanyahu deserves to suffer in Gehinnom” for promising funds to Chareidi schools that don’t study the core curriculum.

In an interview with Channel 12’s Keshet about the state budget, Liberman said: “What Netanyahu did, he truly deserves to suffer in Gehinnon every day to give them funds without them teaching the core curriculum. He wants to let them live in poverty without education and suffer.”

The host of the show, which is on the same channel on which a TV hostess sparked an uproar on Friday when she called Chareidim “bloodsuckers” immediately condemned Lieberman’s statement about Gehinnom.

Likud MK Shlomo Karhi responded by stating: “Lieberman is a known expert in matters of Gehinnom since the Gematria of איווט ליברמן is 364- HaSatan.” [Ivet is Lieberman’s Russian name which he is commonly called in Israel.]

“Lieberman…your jealousy of Netanyahu is driving you out of your mind.”

The Likud party responded by stating: “Every day that the national instigator Lieberman dries up in the opposition is Gan Eden.”

  1. The derech of Rav S. R. Hirsch zt”l is wonderful. His grandson Rav Dr. Joseph Breuer zt”l said in a sermon (which you can find in print) that his grandfather’s derech is the only way for a viable Torah state to function. Teach the children science, mathematics, history, language and rhetoric. We need Jews who are both accomplished Torah scholars as well as physicians, surgeons, scientists, engineers, lawyers, and other highly educated individuals. Frankly, we also need accomplished Torah scholars who know how the world works.

In pre-War Hungary, all Jewish children had to take daily secular studies classes. In Sighet, the yeshiva students had to learn limudei chol thru 3 p.m. They would then break and learn limudei kodesh until after Ma’ariv. One Yiddish memorial book from the Transylvania region lists the ultra-Charedi yeshivos that had instituted vocational training for the talmidim. If you don’t wish to go the Hirschian route, at least follow the path of the Hungarian yeshivos. And NOBODY can question the viability of Torah-true Judaism in Hungary. Frumkeit was stronger there than anywhere else in Europe.

Lieberman is a callous, uncouth man. Having said that, it is a huge mistake to condemn our children to a life of poverty. What is more, depriving them of a modicum of worldly knowledge, specifically how to earn a living, leads to shiftlessness and sin. It was Rabban Gamli’el, the son of Rabbi Yehudah ha-Nasi, who said this (Avot 2:2):

    יָפֶה תַלְמוּד תּוֹרָה עִם דֶּרֶךְ אֶרֶץ, שֶׁיְּגִיעַת שְׁנֵיהֶם מְשַׁכַּחַת עָוֹן. וְכָל תּוֹרָה שֶׁאֵין עִמָּהּ מְלָאכָה, סוֹפָהּ בְּטֵלָה וְגוֹרֶרֶת עָוֹן

  2. Since when is Lieberman YM”S concerned about the poverty of the Chareidim? Didn’t he try to cut all subsidies to the charedim and invoke various “chareidy taxes”?

  3. @Ari Knobler; So, you know better than all Rosh Yeshivos and Gedolim for today! Perhaps Rav Hirsh’s derech was correct for HIS generation but NOT for ours?

  4. כל הכועס כל מיני גיהנום שולטים בו…. וליברמאן
יודע מזה!!! כל יום כועס על החרדים וגם רקב עצמות קנאה.

  5. DavidtheKanoi, Rav Hirsch’s derech has a mesora from the Gemara (R. Yishmael vs. R. Shimon Bar Yohai) to the Rambam to the Pele Yoetz and onward (list not exhaustive; these are the ones that come to mind over breakfast). Who are the Rosh Yeshivos [sic] and Gedolim today who disagree?

  6. Ari Knobler, this is not a European ideal. Chachmei Sepharad always were in touch with the outside world. Like one Rav in Israel recently said, a Jew should be a Totach (a cannon, ie. a master) in Torah and a Totach in the secular world.

  7. DavidtheKanoi yes if Gedolei Torah are saying not like the Gemara or Rambam etc, the yes Sri knows better

  8. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. Bibi has a place in the olam ha’atid with Gafni, Goldknoph, Ben Gvir. he need not pack a coat

  9. @Yabia Omer etc; Do you really think all the Roshei Yeshivos and Gedolim from current and past generations, which you SHOULD and MUST respect, who established all the Yeshivos and Kollelim, don’t know the gemoro, Rambam and Rav Hirsh?
