After Tel Aviv District Court Justice David Rosen called on the prosecution to seek leniency in the sentencing of Holyland defendant Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, the state appears willing to follow the court’s direction.
The state has announced it is seeking a 5-7 year prison term for the main defendant, former PM Ehud Olmert. The court however pointed out that despite Lupoliansky’s conviction, he never took any money for personal gain, but directed the ‘bribe’ money to the Yad Sarah organization. The court also pointed out the former Jerusalem mayor is battling a difficult illness.
The prosecutor is going to agree to delay sentencing for the former Degel Hatorah affiliated mayor to permit him to undergo a medical evaluation. The rav is being treated for cancer and the state wishes to establish his condition and his ability to serve a prison term.

It never ceases to amaze me that the only democracy in the Middle East has no Constitution, no jury trials, no court reporters and no due process for defendants. Murderers in America are treated better than the Yidden treat each other in Israel’s courts.
I don’t know much, but thievery is stealing in all forms whether the money goes in the crooks pocket or that of his pet charity especially one that he set up and runs with his family and himself getting nice fat salaries.
