Report: Israel Has Caused ‘$5 Billion’ Damage To Gaza Homes, Infrastructure

gazaThe following is via Ma’an News:

Israel’s offensive on Gaza has caused over $5 billion of damage to homes and infrastructure in the Strip, the Minister of Public Works said Monday.

Minister Mufeed al-Hasayneh, a resident of Gaza, told Ma’an that the amount of money is likely to increase as the assault continues.

Some 10,000 homes have been completely destroyed, and 30,000 homes partially destroyed, al-Hasayneh said.

“The three areas that have undergone the most intense destruction are Shujaiyya, Beit Hanoun, and Abasan,” the minister said.

“Ministry crews were astonished when they arrived to Shujaiyya, where some 110,000 people live. Sixty percent of the homes were completely destroyed, especially those in the eastern part of the neighborhood.”

The minister said it would take $5 billion to rebuild structures alone, “not including possessions, like furniture and cars.”

“The offensive destroyed buildings belonging to Gaza governorates, in addition to police stations and national security buildings,” al-Hasayneh said.

The diesel containers belonging to Gaza’s power plant have been destroyed as well, he said.

Al-Hasayneh says the “containers will cost $25 million, and there are ten power lines that supply Gaza with power and have been cut off” as well.

He added that 70 percent water wells had been completely destroyed, “in addition to waste water lines.”

According to UN figures, up to 485,000 people — a quarter of Gaza’s population — has been forced to leave their homes throughout the assault on the Strip.

Many of them will return to find their homes destroyed or damaged.

  1. I guess this makes up for the disproportionate amount of money it costs iron dome to shoot down rockets vs the cost of shooting the rocket.

Ok we will call it even.

  2. Wait, the Arab dogs will “demand” that Israel pay for the rebuilding. Its ok, they already give them free electric. When will they ever learn?

  3. The chayos could have saved themselves all that money if they would have used the cement to build homes, schools, and hospitals, instead of the ratholes. Now they can reap the rewards of their perfidy.

  4. Guess who’s going to pay for it: Israel.

The “Palestinians” have nothing to worry about when it comes to monetary costs.

  5. R we supposed to feel sorry for the people who knowingly elect leaders whose primary goal is to kill jews?does anyone care how many jews r displaced

  6. 5 billion dollars is nothing to the oil rich friiends of hamas in qatar, saudi arabia and the rest of the arab world. Let’s see them step up to the plate as quickkly as they run their mouths in condemnation of israel.

  7. Given that both sides have lots of access to foreign funding (e.g. aid from the USA and EU, Arabs and Jews contributing money to their cousins, etc.), the costs of rebuilding (not to mention Israel needing to build more anti-missiles, which are exportable) will create a major Keynesian stimulus. Note that the Shekel has been stable or rising during the war (relative to the dollar). The Gaza economy is linked to Israel’s, so Gaza rebuilding is good for Israel (and to a lesser extent, vice versa). From an economic perspective, this will be a profitable war. Politically it may be different (at this point Likud is profiting, but Hamas may be in trouble if forced to hold a free election). And the families of those killed and wounded aren’t very happy.

  8. It’s all lies! $5 blillion! lol. That means each house was worth about $100,000. Impossible, not in Gaza! And besides, they for sure exaggerated the amount of buildings damaged. But of course the U.N. will give them billions, only to be used for more tunnels and support the luxurious lifestyles of Hamas leaders.

  9. NO one really cares.
to the Arabs, they lived in squalor and accepted it. They will get money from Iran and Hezbollah to rebuild and rearm.
For the Israelis, tough luck, don’t start up if you don’t wand to get it back double.
For the world, the bleeding heart liberals who hate Jews will use this to stir up more hatred, but they really don’t care for the dirty filthy Arabs.
