Poll: Almost Half Of British Jews Fear They Have No Long-Term Future In Britain Or Europe

nnAlmost half of the Jews in Britain fear they have no long-term future in Britain or Europe, according to a poll published on Wednesday.

The poll of 2,230 British Jews by the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (CAA) found that 45 percent feared Jews may have no future in Britain, and 58 percent were concerned they have no long-term future in Europe.

“The results of our survey are a shocking wake-up call straight after the atrocities in Paris,” said CAA chairman Gideon Falter.

The online survey was conducted from December 23 to January 11 — a period that spanned the attacks in Paris against the Charlie Hebdo magazine and against a kosher supermarket, leading France to increase security at Jewish schools and synagogues.

“The results of our survey are a shocking wake-up call straight after the atrocities in Paris,” said CAA chairman Gideon Falter.

“Britain is at a tipping point. Unless anti-Semitism is met with zero tolerance, it will grow and British Jews will increasingly question their place in their own country.”

But the CAA stressed that “Britain is not yet at the levels seen in most of Europe”.

2014 saw the most anti-Semitic incidents recorded by police since records began 30 years ago, according to the organization.

Anti-Semitism in Britain tended to rise during crises involving Israel, “but the sentiment behind it does not simply disappear when the crises end,” it said.

Official figures from London’s metropolitan police showed anti-Semitic crimes more than doubled in the capital over the 12 months to November 2014, compared to the same period a year earlier.

According to the Jewish Agency for Israel, the number of British Jews emigrating to Israel increased by 20 percent in 2014, from 520 in 2013 to 620 in 2014, but in the longer term the agency said the number was stable.

Another poll by YouGovindicates that 45 per cent of the British public agree with at least one of four anti-Semitic statements when presented with them. They include the suggestion that, “Jews chase money more than other British people” and the allegation that loyalty to Israel makes Jews less loyal to Britain than their compatriots.

  1. In spite of your picture, I am seriously doubting they are scared of Nazis. The concern is that the far-left will tolerate Muslim attacks on Jews.

  2. The anti-antisemitism only continues until the terrorist shall be so brazen to blow up Big Ben and the entire British establishment shall turn strongly anti Islam in 1 heartbeat. Similarly when they are so brazen to blow up the Eiffel Tower, the entire French establishment shall also instantly turn against them.

  3. European Jewry should emigrate to the United States, which is immensely less anti-semitic violence that Europe. (The U.S. has even less violence against Jews than Israel.)

  4. I have some other shocking statistics that many of YWN’s readers probably don’t realize. There is no long term future for 100% of Jews in Europe…..and Lakewood…and yes, even Flatbush. There is not supposed to be a long term future for Jews in Golus. There is only one place where there is supposed to be a long term future for the Jewish people and that is Eretz Hakodesh. The more we fail to, at the very least yearn for that, the clearer that message gets. May we merit the Geulah Shelaima speedily in our days, Amen.

  5. #5: When Moshiach comes. Until that time it is golus everywhere, whether in Flatbush, Israel, Lakewood or Europe. And we are never safe anywhere in golus, whether in Flatbush, Israel, Lakewood or Europe. That being said, Israel today is not the safest place for Jewish living. There is more anti-Jewish terror in Israel than even in Europe.

  6. Your Average Joe: And in eretz Yisrael there is afuture for frum Jews, or Jews at all? A few small bombs (which at least one Muslim country posesses) and most of Eretz Yisrael is radioactive debris, and Israel has only limited capacity to retaliate – for what good it would do them (and some of the Muslim “terrorists” and crazy enough to be nuclear suicide bombers, so “MAD” (mutually assured destruction) isn’t an issue. Not to mention that the State of Israel is increasingly hostile to Yiddishkeit, with large percentage of the population favoring closing down yeshivos (through mass conscription), supporting gay rights (which will inevitably lead to persecuting frum Jews for discrimination) – at least America has a tradition of freedom of religion (lacking in most countries, where “freedom from religion” is the norm). If you really want to be free of goyim, you should be research space travel.

Whether you choose to live in Tel Aviv or Lakewood, Jewish survival is a function of Ha’Shem protecting us. No Hiddush there.

  7. HASHEM promised there will always be a remnant of Yidden in TZION (BTW that is Israel).. So my bet is safety is best in HaShem Holyland.
