NYPD: Small Drop in Traffic Deaths This Year

fdnyaMayor Bill de Blasio says he wants to eliminate traffic deaths, and police statistics show there have been slightly fewer this year.
The NYPD says as of Sunday, 111 people died because of motor vehicle accidents in the city this year. That’s compared to 117 at the same time last year, a drop of 5 percent.

Last year, the city passed a series of laws as part of the mayor’s Vision Zero program, including lowering the speed limit to 25 mph.
