Teaneck, NJ – A Teaneck police officer died following a one-vehicle accident, according to a report on News 12 New Jersey.

He has been identified as John Abraham, 37, who was on the force for 16 years.

The officer’s cruiser apparently struck a tree near police headquarters on Teaneck Road between Holland Terrace and Bennett Street around 2 a.m, the report said. He was taken to Holy Name Hospital before being pronounced dead this morning.

It was unclear whether he was responding to a police call at the time of the accident.

The 37-year-old officer was married with one child, the report said.

Teaneck Road remains closed in the area.
