Five People Shot On Brighton Beach Boardwalk

Two men opened fire on the jam-packed boardwalk in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, Thursday evening and wounded five people — one fatally, the NYPD said.

The boardwalk was packed with teenagers who were off from school because of “Brooklyn-Queens Day” and seeking some relief from the sweltering weather.

“These kids come not to swim, they come for turf fights,” said Pat Singer, president of the Brighton Beach Neighborhood Association, according to the New York Post. “It’s a problem every year. All day long you see hundreds of teenagers, so of course you’re going to have problems.”

Two of the victims — a man and a woman in their 20s — were rushed in very critical condition at Coney Island Hospital, the FDNY said. The woman later died.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne described the scene as “chaotic.” He said the shooting happened during a fight and that at least two gunmen were involved.

Three other victims — all in their 20s — were taken to Coney Island Hosipital and Lutheran Hospital, the AP reported.

The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m. right in front of Tatiana’s Restaurant near Brighton 6th Street.

Police were questioning several people, but declined to say if any of them was a suspect.

Witnesses said that after several shots were fired, mayhem and panic broke out.
