Why the Chareidi Parties Supported the Draft Law – The Deal Revealed

Support for the Nationality Law in exchange for changes in the Draft Law – these are the understandings reached between the chareidi parties and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, KAN News reported on the Monday evening news.

According to the publication, MK Moshe Gafne was heard in closed conversations explaining that the chareidi MKs had promised that changes would be made to the Draft Law in exchange for their support for the Nationality Law.

It should be noted that some representatives of the chareidi public objected to the Nationality Law, and MK Yisrael Eichler even sent a letter to members of the various chareidi parties demanding that they abstain from voting on the law for fear that it would harm chareidim in the future.

The Likud responded to complaints about a deal between the chareidi parties and PM Netanyahu that “it is simply not true.”

MK (Machane Yehudi) Salah Saad said that “Netanyahu is showing his true face – selling the Druse to the chareidim. He harms the Druse who serve [in the IDF] with the help of the Nationality Law and in return gives the chareidim a mass exemption from enlistment. Israel does not need a policy of divide and rule, but rather a strong, solid and equal society.”
