Israel: Chareidi Journalist Censured for Reading a Letter from Lubavitcher Rebbe Against the Toeiva Community

Chareidi journalist Uri Revach read a letter from the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZT”L on the subject of the toeiva parade and was invited to a discussion during which he was reprimanded on Wednesday.

During his “KAN Moreshet,” he read a letter from the Rebbe who wrote about the subject and wrote: “Although all the blessings derive from G-d, the person must do what is necessary in the natural order. With regard to this problem, you certainly know about doctors and psychiatrists who take care of it, and who have succeeded in many cases. In many cases, I know of a number of cases of people who had this problem, but in the end, they overcame it, married and established families.”

A day after the broadcast, KAN received a request from a journalist to receive a response regarding Revach’s remarks made on the air on Public Broadcasting Corporation airwaves. Revach was invited to a reprimand hearing Tuesday night, journalist Yehuda Schlesinger reported.

However, according to a Kikar Shabbos News report, Revach received another message Wednesday morning, in which he was told that he was called for an urgent call by the corporation’s vice president, but it is not yet clear whether this is indeed the case.

“It’s a matter of shutting mouths,” says Revach, who has been involved in radio broadcasts for years, explained, “If only this was the response each time chareidi Jewry is ridiculed on KAN on radio and television. Suddenly, when speaking about a chareidi journalist, who when all said and done read a letter from the Lubavitcher Rebbe on the air, see how they respond towards him”. First a conversation to scold him, and now, another conversation with the deputy director-general.”

The Kikar News report add that another chareidi journalist who responded saying, “It’s so natural that in a week like this a chareidi journalist will read a letter from his Rebbe on this subject, as there is a bunch of people in the corporation who feel anyone who does not broadcast to the spirit of their views is simply going to be targeted. What a shame!”

KAN’s response: In each of the eight radio networks of the public broadcasting corporation, different voices, views and faces are presented that do not necessarily correspond to those of the various sectors that are the fiber of Israeli society. There is no opinion that is not legitimate, and no position will be silenced, as long as it is played in the correct context, does not incite and complies with the rules of the corporation’s ethical code.

“Here is Moreshet, the chareidi public’s religious station, whose broadcasts deal with a variety of issues that are at the center of the public agenda, among them issues that the other chareidi media ostensibly refrains from addressing. The subject of the protest of equality.

“In the series of programs that covered the subject, opposing positions were voiced and various aspects of the protest were presented. In the Melave Malka program, the position of the Lubavitcher Rebbe was heard in the matter, by means of the presenter of the program who read the rabbi’s letters. ‘Melave Malka’ is an old program that has been broadcasting for decades, and its essence is to provide the listeners with a pleasant experience – not offensive and inclusive – from Shabbos to Weekday. Here, Moreshet uses the tools at its disposal to ensure that the program will maintain its ethical character and public broadcasting rules. ”

  1. I find it bizarre that a journalist would be criticized for reading the Rebbe’s views on this matter. The behavioral science behind so called “gay conversion” therapy has been debunked in recent years and several states have enacted laws prohibiting professionals from engaging in such phony therapy. However, there is no reason to censor a journalist from reading the Rebbe’s views from many years ago, whether or not one gives the substance any credibility.

  2. Free speech, according to the lefty liberals, means saying only what they accept and nothing else.

Oh, the Torah is against LTBQ’s, well the loony left only accepts its perverted ideas…

  3. So-called “gay conversion” therapy has only been debunked by people who believe that being gay is permissible, which it is not permissible and has also been debunked because it may not succeed as the people who “want” to go straight do not have the correct mindset, they do not really really want to change for the right reasons, and then they complain.
Let them believe that they should change, then they may succeed, even without “gay conversion”.

  4. GadolHatorah: the fact that some older, classic methods have been debunked etc. does not in any way denegrate from other methods which DO work and which are practiced widely today (I’ve seen on guardyoureyes.com several discussions regarding such methods, including discussions by professionals in the business). In fact, as stated in the letter, the Lubavitcher Rebbe himself states that such methods have worked; surely you don’t assume the Rebbe stated blatant untruths ch”v?

To elaborate: the classic methods which you mention as having been debunked etc. involved the method of creating a negative association with the patient’s desires. For example, they would show him a picture of an attractive male etc. and consequently treat him to an electric shock.

The methods that do work, however, involve (AFAIK) the Behavioral Cognitive method (amongst others), which helps the patient locate the source of the problem embedded within his subconscious, in order to consequently uproot it.
There are many who have reported this method to be successful.

  5. Another ignorant posting from gh. The behavioral “science” industry was hijacked many years ago by interest groups with a definite agenda which includes normalizing deviant behavior. Their “findings” were a foregone conclusion and are not based on genuine scienctific research. The Lubavitcher Rebbe was certainly not ignorant of the many cases in which conversion therapy was successful and indeed it still has successes today although the practicioners have in many cases been forced to go underground.
It is well established psychologically that the phenomenon of deviant tendencies is a result of a variety of issues including extremely poor parental bonding and only through a comprehensive program of treatment, which is included in the best conversion therapy programs, will these issues be addressed rather than ignored and the person lauded for his “brave coming-out.”
gh in her posting shows clearly that not only is she against Gedolei Hador, she is actually against the Torah itself (which could in any case be derived from the former) because she is disputing Hashem’s natural order. She should be banned from YWN, just as any other blatant kofer should be banned.
If there was a regular poster who denied the holocaust, I’m sure YWN would block him – why should this be different?

  6. Dagolhaborah

(In the the study by Dr. Robert Spitzer actually did find that sexual conversion therapy does in fact work and that study was consistent with an earlier study by MacIntosh in 1994.

Yes Dr. Spitzer did come under harsh criticism from the g#% community and yes the APA did distance itself from his work however when approached the editor of the Journal that originally published the article Dr. Kenneth Zucker Ph.D, to ask to issue a retraction he replied

“You can retract data incorrectly analyzed, to do that you publish an erratum. You can retract an article of the data was falsified-or the journal retracts it if the editor knows it. As I understand it he’s just saying ten years later that he wants to retract his interpretation of the data. Well we’d probably have to retract hundreds of scientific papers with regard to interpretation, and we don’t do that”.

I would encourage the posters who state that there is no proof that therapy can work in these cases to read the entire article)

And even so only if they control themselves do they, fall under the rubric of Oness
There have been several, or possibly many, examples from the recent and bygone past ( e.g.the yishuv Hayashan’s public activist of 95 years ago whos yahrzeit just passed)
They should marry their shtender or give their ardor to public klal affairs
    yeshaya 56:2-5

And if you have a long term problem with your Faith,Own up and avoid these incessant use of foils
Another pernicious post ,getting worse by the month

  7. yehuda26,

    Absolutely Correct

The gov’t will allow parents to give gender hormones to children who they claim act like the opposite gender ,but conversion therapy [which has for the most part worked hundreds of times in different forms -ask an old mashgiach) is Banned

According to Those like GH ,anyone born with a predilection to murder or ,say, shoplifting will be unable to control themselves ??

Should we give them a free pass??

  8. People have proclivities for Everything under the sun
And most of those things are prohibited-so they control themselves very effectively
They did a hundred years ago ,and they do now

    So deluged by the zeigeist?!

    Let them believe.
    ——————————
Dont mean to correct you but being gay is not a prohibition. What is prohibited is acting out .
Its just like a person saying he has a tyveh for an eishes ish. That in itself is not prohibited ,. Acting out is.

  10. Time for truth:
Interestingly, the Lubavitcher Rebbe brings the same example (specifically regarding a Kleptomaniac) in the rest of the letter mentioned in this article, saying that surely someone’s being born with such an issue does not justify his errant behavior as acceptable etc.

  11. Takes 2 2 tango:
When I said that conversion therapy “may not succeed as the people who “want” to go straight do not have the correct mindset”, I did not mean they were only thinking “gay thoughts, I meant that they were acting it out in real life, has v sholom. Why should not a person overcome their “gay” thoughts? They should! Having “gay” thoughts and thinking they are OK so long as one gay person doesn’t act on it, is a very low state of mind. It is not at all good.

  12. Once again Gadolhadorah is displaying her liberal leftist foolishness and arrogance. She has audacity to dismiss words of the Lubavitcher Rebbe on the subject in favor of propaganda and politically correct garbage fed by Fake New Media and anti G-D, anti Torah and anti human “popular” culture. It never fails to see that people who do not have Torah will always accept any lies and crooked ideologies like Evolution, Global Warming, Women ‘Liberation movement’, abortions on demand, homosexuality the list goes on.
