The IDF announced that troops have recovered a casket believed to contain the remains of an Israeli hostage from the Gaza Strip.
The body has been transferred under police escort to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv, where officials say the identification process could take up to two days.
Hamas did not provide the name of the hostage whose body was returned. However, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades — the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine — claimed responsibility for handing over the remains, suggesting that the hostage had been held by their group.
That statement appears to contradict Hamas’s earlier claim that it had located and returned the body itself.
If confirmed, this recovery would leave 15 bodies of Israeli hostages still held by terror groups in Gaza.
