Thousands of people flooded the streets of the Satmar neighborhood on Sunday evening in a massive and emotional procession marking the release of 15 “Asirei Olam HaTorah” who completed their terms of imprisonment in a military jail.
The powerful event was accompanied by spirited dancing, a “Hachnosas Sefer Torah vehicle”, and the singing of “Ashreichem Talmidei Chachamim.” Participants escorted the released bochurim along the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, expressing admiration for their steadfastness and sacrifice, praising the young men who “merited to sit in prison for their desire to safeguard our religion.”
The procession, held under the resonant banner “Havu Godel L’Giborei HaUma,” was accompanied by music and instruments and led by renowned baal menagen R’ Bentzi Stein. According to organizers, the Torah prisoners arrived in ceremonial vehicles at 7:00 p.m., with the procession traveling from Yismach Moshe Street toward Chazon Ish Street, culminating in a central reception held in the heart of the neighborhood.
The massive crowd joined together in song and celebration, filling the streets with voices of joy and gratitude as they honored the “Asirei Olam HaTorah.”
During the march, the 15 released bochurim were hoisted onto the shoulders of celebrants amid waves of singing and dancing. According to updated figures, 19 additional draft evaders remain incarcerated in the military prison, currently serving their sentences.
