U.S. ROUTE RETURNS: El Al To Fly Direct Between Tel Aviv And San Francisco

El Al announced Monday that it will resume nonstop service between Tel Aviv and San Francisco beginning October 25, restoring a key route connecting Israel with one of the world’s leading technology and business centers.

The Israeli flag carrier said the route will operate three times weekly and will utilize its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet on the approximately 15-hour journey.

In a nod to the city’s NFL franchise, El Al has designated the route as Flight LY49.

“San Francisco is one of the most important technology, innovation and business hubs in the world, with a large and central Israeli community,” said Shlomi Zafrani, El Al’s Vice President of Commerce and Sales.

“The opening of the new route is intended to respond to significant demand from the business and Israeli community in the region, and to enable a more direct and convenient connection between Israel and Silicon Valley,” he added.

The airline previously operated nonstop flights between Tel Aviv and San Francisco beginning in late 2018, but suspended the route in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move is part of El Al’s broader expansion plans amid growing demand for travel between Israel and the United States. Earlier this year, the airline announced plans to purchase up to 12 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners to support future long-haul growth.

With the return of San Francisco service, El Al will offer nonstop flights from Israel to five major U.S. destinations: New York, Miami, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

The route is expected to be particularly popular among members of the Israeli tech industry, entrepreneurs, investors, and the large Israeli expatriate community living throughout Northern California.
