Report: Removal of Outposts Even on Shabbos & Yomtov

The weekly Mishpacha Hebrew newspaper reports that residents of Shvut Ami, near Kedumim in Shomron, have learned that it appears for the IDF, the removal of unauthorized outposts supersedes kedushas shabbos and yomtov. Soldiers arrived on Shavuos to destroy the yishuv, and then returned on shabbos to finish the job, which was not completed until motzei shabbos.

Yishai Gilad, one of the residents of Shvut Ami, expressed his anger over the fact that soldiers in Eretz Yisrael are ordered to dismantle homes on shabbos and Yomtov, explaining it is bad enough that they are instructed to do so during the week. He explained the military arrived in large numbers, so much so nothing was done to resist their chilul shabbos and yomtov operation.

The Land of Israel Forum represented by attorney Ro’i Ezrad has turned to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi and IDF Chief Rabbi Brigadier-General Ronsky for an explanation of the operation which ignores Chief of General Staff regulations prohibiting such operations on shabbos and yomtov.

  1. I’m sure the government views destruction of settlements as “pikuach nefesh” which is docheh Shabbas! After all, obama is threatening Israel’s life if they don’t do it, and they are yirai obama, not yirai HaSh-m! Of course what they do NOT realize is that obama (like all past and present threats to Am Yisrael) will come and go, but it is how WE react to these threats (with increased t’filla and shmirat hamitzvot)that will determine what the future will bring.
