State: Yigal Amir Can Meet 1 Other Prisoner

The State Prosecutor’s Office is considering ways to alleviate the confinement conditions of Yigal Amir, who assassinated former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

One of the options being examined is to have Amir meet with another prisoner every other week for half an hour. The offer was presented to Amir’s attorney ahead of a scheduled hearing at the Petach Tikva District Court.

Recently, the State offered to place another prisoner in Amir’s cell, but he refused. His attorney, Avi Moskowitz of the Public Defender’s Office, explained that this would perpetuate Amir’s confinement.

Last month, the Supreme Court rejected Amir’s appeal over the decision to keep him in solitary confinement, and ruled that he will stay in confinement for an additional six months.

In their ruling, the judges wrote that letting Amir meet with other prisoners for short periods of time under supervision, in order to enable him to pray in a quorum, may be examined during the next hearing.

Justices Miriam Naor, Ester Chayut and Neal Hendel said that “this possibility may be examined in the future, without writing anything in stone.”

“The option of easing his condition from time to tome, in a way other than placing another prisoner in his cell, such as allowing the petitioner to meet with other prisoners, has not been raised during the hearing,” wrote Judge Naor.

  1. It is inhumane to keep a person no matter what he is convicted for in constant solitary confinement. This is a violation of a persons basic human rights and is definitely a form of psychological torture worse than death. WHERE ARE ALL THE ISRAELI HUMAN RIGHTS GROUPS THAT INVOLVE THEMSELVES WITH THESE MATTERS!!!!!!

Isn’t he still a human being!

  2. Israeli human rights groups, like those of other countries, only address cases that are politically expedient to them. They have no mercy for Yigal because he murdered their hero. May Hashem help this young man be strong and someday repent for the wrong he may have done and eventually restore his life. Much worse killers (terrorists) have been released by Israel. Yigal is not a “killer” but rather a person who thought he is a true hero that is halting a dangerous left wing politician (Rabin) and was willing to put his life on the line in order to so. Obviously, no true daas Torah would have ever endorsed the killing.

  3. This is one of Israels’ problems: Being confused.

As horrible a thing as Amir did, (murder is murder, no matter whose life was taken; prime minister or anonymous Jew in Israel). that being said, had Amir been a murdering palestinian, or one of thousands…he may have been part of a deal and released by now.

  4. Murder is murder but there is much evidence that Yigal Amir was just the fall guy. This is why he is being treated worst than arab terrorist. The police and court are afraid that information can come to light if he is mixed with other prisoners to prove Amir was tricked in doing this crime and who ever planned it is still walking free.
