NBC: Trump Paused “Project Freedom” in Strait of Hormuz After Backlash From Gulf Allies

President Trump reportedly paused “Project Freedom,” a U.S. operation aimed at helping ships safely move through the Strait of Hormuz, after backlash from Gulf allies, according to NBC News.

• Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries were caught off guard and frustrated after Trump publicly announced the operation without first coordinating with them. Saudi Arabia then informed the U.S. it could no longer use certain Saudi airspace and military facilities tied to the mission.

• Following the backlash, Trump held calls with officials in Saudi Arabia and Oman as the administration tried to salvage regional support for the operation.
