Texas GOP Senate Runoff Between Cornyn and Paxton Becomes Most Expensive Primary Ever

Texas Republicans are heading to the polls Tuesday in the high-stakes Senate primary runoff between Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, with more than $120 million reportedly spent on advertising alone — making it the most expensive Senate primary race on record.

• Cornyn finished first in the March primary but failed to secure more than 50% of the vote. Despite occasional clashes with President Trump, he has largely backed Trump during his second term.

• Paxton, a longtime Trump ally, received Trump’s endorsement shortly before the runoff, a move political analysts said dramatically shifted the race in his favor.
