Jewish Community Wishes Farewell To NYPD Inspector

harris.jpgMonday was the last day of work for Inspector Thomas J. Harris – at the NYPD’s 70th Precinct, and many people came to wish him farewell, and good luck in his future job as chief of security in NYC’s Times Square.

Representatives from Misaskim, Boro Park & Flatbush Hatzolah, Boro Park & Flatbush Shomrim, NYPD Chief of Department Joseph J. Esposito, many other NYPD and NYC officials, as well as his personal acquaintances, were all there to escort him out of the PCT for the last time.

Upon his exit from the PCT, the actual NYPD (“Housing”) vehicle which the Inspector drove every day when he first joined the NYPD many years ago was waiting. The Inspector waved one last time, got in his vehicle, and did a slow drive down Lawrence Avenue – escorted by the NYPD Highway 2 Units, and police horses.

YWN spoke with a Misaskim spokesman who said the the Inspector will be sorely missed by their organization. “The acts of kindness which this man has done in his 23 years at the NYPD, are too many to number; but let’s put it this way, there has never been a greater friend (overall) than the Inspector,” said Misaskim.

“He is a true Ohev Yisroel, and is from the Chasdei Umos Ha’olam”.

“Inspector Harris served the 70th PCT through his outstanding leadership and hard work,” Chaim Deutsch, Coordinator of Flatbush Shomrim, told YWN. “By his retiring, will just be a continuation of friendship which we had with him,” Deutsch said.

“Inspector Harris was a true friend of the Jewish Community – both as Captain, and later as Inspector of the 70th PCT,” Boro Park Shomrim told YWN. “He worked hand in hand along with Shomrim, to ensure that things ran smoothly”.

Inspector Thomas Harris was an individual who gave of himself 100% to the community which he served – with total devotion and humility.

YWN wishes Inspector Harris much success in all his future endeavours, and thanks him publicly for his dedicated service to the Jewish Community.

  1. Inspector Tom Harris is a true professional who was respected by both the community and them men and women of the 70. He will be remembered as one of the best the 70 has had along with the late Inspectors Brennon and Digillio. If only each precinct would be headed by people as capable as these three the City would be a better place for all. We all wish his continued sucess in his new job.
