Gerrer Chassidim will Not Support Porush’s Mayoral Bid

porush2.jpgDuring the motzei Shabbos gathering of Gerrer Chassidim in Yerushalayim, including rabbonim and askanim, it was decided that the Gerrer Chassidus will not support Rabbi Meir Porush in his bid to become the next mayor of Yerushalayim. While no one actually came out and said the words, the hints and tone of the gathering were quite clear and the message was understood.

Thousands of chassidim were on hand to hear Rav Yaakov Litzman, gathering in the Beis Yaakov Seminary Building. “I will speak of more technical matters and then you will hear from the rabbonim,” stated Litzman.

Litzman reminded the audience that 15 year ago, Porush ran in the mayoral race competing against Teddy Kollek and Ehud Olmert. “Porush teamed up with Olmert and then called for our support too,” stated Litzman. His message was clear.

Following Litzman was Rav Asher Nauhauz Shlita, Rosh Yeshiva Siftei Tzedek in Chatzor HaGlilit and a member of the Gerrer Vaad Chinuch of the Rebbe Shlita. He spoke of the difficulties and events surrounding Chinuch Atzmai, stating this is critical and the situation is difficult, with many attacking chareidi education. He stressed Chinuch Atzmai is essential to ensure children learn to recite Shema Yisrael. “The situation was improved when we were all united we must unite for the common goal.”

Rav Yosef Kupperburg, the Chairman of Agudas Yisrael confirmed the difficult of the present situation. His message was clear to all present, the Gerrer would not work towards a Porush victory in his mayoral bid.

  1. Would it be better if there were more achdus in the ‘charedi’world? Rabbi Porush is a good man and the right person for the job.Again,we see chassidim looking down on another Jew who happens to wear a different style hat.If they would support the man,he could lead the city in the right path.

  2. This article makes no sense there are more missing pieces than what has been written.

YWN please! either write something that makes sense or don’t write it at all!

Reading this article one will never decipher; why they won’t vote for him, who they will support instead or the purpose of this meeting (what triggered it)????????????

  3. yrr, welcome to the hareidi world….

will they vote for a different candidate instead or will they simply abstain? What is their rationale? I simply dont get it…. any gerrer hassid reading this?

    gabs

  4. this is quite clearly a biased article that seems to be aimed at progressing what is stated therein as an inconclusive consensus in the gur community.

  5. #1 – proud of KAJ WH TIDE, how can you say in one sentence that we need more achdus, and then in the next sentence say “Again,we see chassidim looking down on another Jew who happens to wear a different style hat” Please work on your own achdus before you decide that everyone else should work on theirs.

  6. Porush is sunk in the polls anyway.

Notice that Lopoliansky could win hands down, except for the fact that he’s such a mensch he’s keeping to an agreement he made years ago to bow out now for Porush.

Wherever Lopoliansky goes, vote for him. You won’t be sorry.
