Yated Ne’eman Endorses John McCain For President

McCain-Kosel.jpgYated Neeman is departing from its usual practice and endorsing Republican candidate Senator John McCain for President of the United States in the November 4 national elections. Senator McCain is an American war hero and a recognized expert on military and foreign affairs. He is a longtime friend of Israel. He is a dedicated reformer who has demonstrated great political courage and independence. He is also a man of great decency and honesty, with a deep sense of personal honor and patriotism.

While the polls and the mainstream media are predicting a victory by Senator Barack Obama, his support appears to be soft, making a coronation premature.

We believe that McCain is better equipped than Obama to lead this country out of the current economic crisis and slowdown, pursue the war against Islamic terrorism, and restore America’s pride and prestige as the leader of the free world. The US should not experiment with an untested leader, such as Obama, at this time of crisis.

Based upon his unique record of bipartisan cooperation with Democrats and independents in the US Senate, McCain, as president, would be more capable than Obama of reaching out across party lines to unite the country to meet these challenges.

McCain has an impeccable record of support for Israel. He has always been committed to the safety and security of Israel, and has long recognized the mutually supportive links between international Islamic terrorism, Palestinian leaders and the rogue states dedicated to Israel’s destruction.

McCain has promised that, as president, he would recognize Yerushalayim as Israel’s capital, keep it undivided under Israeli sovereignty, and relocate the US embassy to the city.

But just one day after Obama told AIPAC that “Jerusalem must remain undivided,” he reversed himself in reaction to criticism from the Arab world and said that he would put the unity and sovereignty of Yerushalayim back on the negotiating table. During the presidential campaign, Obama has often declared his support for Israel, particularly when speaking before Jewish audiences. But according to Chicago media reports, while Obama was an Illinois state senator, he often attended Palestinian and Arab-American community events, and called for a more “even-handed” US government approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

We are also troubled by Obama’s rogues gallery of former friends and supporters, and his failure to adequately explain his association with them.

Some of Obama’s most influential foreign policy advisors have openly predicted that he will increase American pressure on Israel for concessions in the peace process once he enters the Oval Office.

Unlike Obama, McCain remains unwilling to negotiate with Iran’s president as long as he remains publicly committed to Israel’s destruction, and can be trusted to take the firm action required to protect Israel from the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran.

Unlike Obama, McCain has a clear strategic vision for defending America’s vital national interests throughout the Middle East, and against the re-emerging threat of Russian imperialism. He is also prepared to use America’s military as well as its diplomatic and economic strength to safeguard this country.

Obama never recognized the threat that Saddam Hussein posed to peace in the region and America’s strategic interests in the Middle East, and opposed the war in Iraq from the outset. By contrast, McCain supported the war, but was one of the first Republicans to criticize the subsequent mistakes which allowed the Iraq insurgency to get out of hand.

When Bush finally proposed the troop surge strategy, McCain demonstrated great political courage by defying popular opinion to support it. He clearly meant it when he said at that time that he would “rather lose an election than see the United States lose a war.” That political courage was ultimately vindicated when the surge proved to be the key to US victory in Iraq. By contrast, Obama has remained stubbornly unwilling to recognize the surge’s success.

With regard to domestic policy, only McCain can be trusted to restore the faith of American voters in the integrity and responsiveness of the government in Washington. Unlike Obama, McCain has gone beyond empty rhetoric to prove, time and again, his determination to expose and condemn such evil practices as earmarked government budget items, and to loosen the grip of corrupt lobbyists, special interest groups and big money on government lawmaking, regulation, spending and the electoral process itself.

With regard to the mortgage meltdown, McCain was one of the first to publicly expose the dangers from the reckless lending policies promoted by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, while Obama was a major beneficiary of their political contributions.

McCain can be trusted to resolve the current economic crisis with necessary reforms that will strengthen the free market capitalism which has always been at the core of American prosperity. Obama’s proposals would lead this country down the road to socialism.

McCain understands the need to cut taxes in order to lead this country out of the current recession, while Obama’s liberal “tax the rich” policies would only add to the burden on the small businesses which create most of the new jobs in this country, and further delay the recovery.

On social policy, McCain is a staunch supporter of traditional conservative moral values, as confirmed by his selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.

McCain can be counted upon to appoint responsible judges to the federal bench and the US Supreme Court who will not seek to impose their personal values on the American people and the US Constitution; judges who will respect our religious beliefs, and who will defend our shared concepts of basic decency and morality.

For all these reasons and more, we endorse John McCain in the upcoming election for president. However, regardless of which candidate ultimately wins the White House on November 4, we pray that the US will remain free and strong, committed to democracy and human rights, and worthy of our loyal support.

  1. Omein,
    אמן וכן יהי רצון ה’
Anyone with a brain in his head should come to that conclusion,Jew or not.

  2. Good grief.

“We believe that McCain is better equipped than Obama to lead this country out of the current economic crisis and slowdown.”

Really? I mean, really, really? McCain? The guy hasn’t articulated a single solution that is even remotely connected to the problem. What are you basing this belief on?

“The US should not experiment with an untested leader, such as Obama, at this time of crisis.”

Good point. But by all means let’s put Palin in there as the #2 behind the oldest candidate in history who has also had melanomic lesions removed from his face.

“He [McCain] is also a man of great decency and honesty, with a deep sense of personal honor and patriotism.”

True, as long as you ignore his entire campaign.

“McCain has promised that, as president, he would recognize Yerushalayim as Israel’s capital, keep it undivided under Israeli sovereignty, and relocate the US embassy to the city.”

Precisely how many times do you need to hear the relocation promise before you figure out it’s just something politicians say when they’re campaigning? If Bush didn’t move the embassy to Yerushalayim, why on earth would McCain?

“But according to Chicago media reports, while Obama was an Illinois state senator, he often attended Palestinian and Arab-American community events, and called for a more “even-handed” US government approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict… Some of Obama’s most influential foreign policy advisors have openly predicted that he will increase American pressure on Israel for concessions in the peace process once he enters the Oval Office.”

Wake. Up. There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats on the Palestinian issue. It isn’t 1994 anymore. They all want a two-state solution and they just want the whole issue in the rear-view mirror.

“Unlike Obama, McCain has a clear strategic vision for defending America’s vital national interests throughout the Middle East, and against the re-emerging threat of Russian imperialism.”

Is this a reference to that skirmish in Georgia? The one that McCain would have elevated into some kind of Cuban missle crisis? Yeah, that’s the kind of strategic vision we’re looking for.

“That political courage was ultimately vindicated when the surge proved to be the key to US victory in Iraq. By contrast, Obama has remained stubbornly unwilling to recognize the surge’s success.”

So because the US eked out a marginal victory by doubling down their efforts after the war had been dragging on for 3-4 years, that means that the entire Iraq war is now above reproach? McCain is entirely right and Obama is entirely wrong? Obama has never said the surge didn’t help at all; his point is that it obscures the more fundamental loss.

“With regard to the mortgage meltdown, McCain was one of the first to publicly expose the dangers from the reckless lending policies promoted by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, while Obama was a major beneficiary of their political contributions.”

    This is just stupid.

“McCain can be trusted to resolve the current economic crisis with necessary reforms that will strengthen the free market capitalism which has always been at the core of American prosperity. Obama’s proposals would lead this country down the road to socialism.”

Say what? McCain hasn’t even attempted to make a proposal that is on point. All he’s done is play political theater with his fake announcement to suspend his campaign. What has he actually proposed? To fight budgetary earmarks? That’s not even a related issue. And what do you mean by Obama leading the country down the road to socialism? How so? Would regulating the CDS market be socialist? Even Alan Greenspan would tell you you’ve lost your mind for still thinking this way.

“McCain understands the need to cut taxes in order to lead this country out of the current recession, while Obama’s liberal “tax the rich” policies would only add to the burden on the small businesses which create most of the new jobs in this country, and further delay the recovery.”

How much help have the Bush tax cuts provided to the middle class over the last eight years? Have incomes risen in real dollars, or stagnated? You should wake up to the reality that supply-side economics have been dealt a death blow by this recession. But hey, by all means, keep pretending it’s 1994, once you’re already doing that on the Palestinian issue.

“On social policy, McCain is a staunch supporter of traditional conservative moral values, as confirmed by his selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.”

I think you’re missing some other things that his selection of Palin confirms.

“McCain can be counted upon to appoint responsible judges to the federal bench and the US Supreme Court who will not seek to impose their personal values on the American people and the US Constitution; judges who will respect our religious beliefs, and who will defend our shared concepts of basic decency and morality.”

You don’t want judges who respect your religious beliefs; you want judges who will impose our religious beliefs on others. The belief that life begins, for all purposes, before the third trimester, is a religious one — that I hold. But absent religious belief, there is no reason why abortion should be disallowed before the third trimester.

As it is this whole issue is a red herring; at most a Supreme Court with nine Scalias would rule it’s up to the states to decide how to regulate abortion. So in that scenario, just how many states do you estimate would change their abortion laws? Do you think there will ever be a time where abortion is against the law in New York? In California? In at least 40 of the states? So why do people even care about this issue?

“However, regardless of which candidate ultimately wins the White House on November 4, we pray that the US will remain free and strong, committed to democracy and human rights, and worthy of our loyal support.”

    Amen.

  3. I am voting for bloomberg and arnold. A vote for mccain in ny is a waste . I want mike and arnold for 2012. We’ll change the constitution. We need a smart guy like mike who can’t be bought and a terminator like arnold to scare away all the girly men arabs.

  4. It boggles my mind that there are these posts on yeshiva world. Thersepro obama People are sheep. marching along ignoring all the warning signs. while most of it

  5. hey dan, lie all you want, obama and his advisers ARE ANTI-ISRAEL!

what’s more, obama will raise taxes like crazy, negotiate with iran, not drill for american oil, put super liberal judges in supreme court, and generaly send this country (and the rest of the world) down the tubes.

    MCCAIN 08!

  6. I dont know Dan but it seems everyone disagrees with you. In fact people are geting ready to leave the country. He has friends and mentors who hate this country…who proclaim “G-D D–m America”. He has friends who are radical Muslims and want to bring sharia law to the USA and WHOLE WORLD. His friends also want to KILL ALL JEWS!!! HELLO! Constitution shmonstitution… eisav soneh es yakkov. We have dass Torah, and no godol endorsed Barack Hussain Obama, WHY! Because he is a danger to our medina shel chessed! GEVALD !!! WAKE UP!!!! IM SURE YOU MEAN WELL, BUT YOU ARE WRONG! MIR DARF TUN TESHUVA! translation: we got to repent. Amen

  7. We can’t allow this mushchis chaya, anti-semit, behayma to become president.”

I genuinely laughed out loud at this. Then I realized you were being serious.

In any event, I’m not sure where I “lied” or which “warning signs” I’ve ignored. I’m also not sure which da’as Torah has proclaimed that it’s assur to vote for Obama and a mitzvas aseh to vote McCain.

At least explain to me how it doesn’t bother any of you that Sarah Palin has a better chance of becoming Presideny by natural circumstances that any other VP candidate in history. I mean, you do know that’s how it works, right? If McCain croaks, Sarah Palin is the president. You’re all tz’friedin’ with that?

  8. Hey dan,

You forgot to mention the rev. j. wright that obama assosiated himself for 20 years with.

He only stopped the relationship for political reasons and we all walk around like it never exsisted and it’s not an issue.

Up until he ran for the presidency he never introduced a single bill and has zero experience doing anything. His strategists are telling him what to say.

Sarah Palin has way more experience than obama and she is in the vp slot.

Rav Miller ZAL said never vote for a liberal democrat. PERIOD.

He has terrible assosiations and is not ready prepared or competent of using the room once graced by the great Ronald Reagan.

  9. Dan, No, I’d rather not have Palin, or any women for that matter in high office. It isn’t a woman’s place. Nevertheless better ti have her in the #2 slot than a highly unqualified inexperianced man like Obama in the #1 slot.

  10. A request for clarification: is Obama secretly a Muslim terrorist, per his middle name and Kenyan father, or a Christian zealot, per his past membership in Rev. Wright’s church? Or does he somehow manage to be both at the same time? A neat trick if the latter.

  11. Dan, Obama is the most inexperienced and socialist candidate for president EVER. In his ONE senate term, Obama has not had time to write a single law, but has written THREE books about HIMSELF. When he was elected senator, he was asked if he would consider running for president. He said NO, because then he’d “have to essentially start now”.

Obama has also said that he doesn’t regret his slip to Joe the Plumber that he intends to “spread the wealth around”. This means he wants to take your hard-earned parnassa and give it to some lazy drug addict on streets. I don’t want this to happen – do you?!

And then there’s the most important issue of Obama negotiating with Ahmadinejad, who intends to “wipe Israel off the map” and is the main supporter of terrorism. Or do you support Ahmadinejad?!

Voting for Obama is a risk that we as Americans and as Jews simply cannot take.

  12. If you don’t vote on the 4th, it’s as if you voted for Obama!
Live in NY? It’s still VERY important you go out and VOTE McCain on Tuesday!
EVERY vote DOES count! It will make a real difference!

If you simply won’t vote “‘cauze NY is lost anyways” It’s another piece of support for Obama!

  13. Considering Senator McCain’s age (72) and his several incidents of Osa Machlah (cancer), the likelihood of his being succeeded by Sarah Palin is very high. How can we vote for a woman Commander in Chief? Have CHAZAL not taught us: Ein Darka Shel Isha Lichbosh?

  14. What about Dvorah Hanevioh?

    I am only asking.

I do not believe that lechatchilloh an ishoh should have that job, in this day and this state. However, if it must be an ishoh, maybe she is one of the better qualified, and certainly a quick study. As far as character, which is the main concern, according to what I read, she is better than most at the very least. The worst thing her detractors could come up was almost outright silly, or at the worst – minor. There seems to be some doubt as to whether she is Jewish.

    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_Sarah_Palin_Jewish

  15. The reason why the Yated is endorsing McCain is because fools like Dan and Anti-Semites like nfgo are trying to influence people to vote for Obama. When I read some of the comments on these blogs I wonder where everyone’s Jewish pride went to and if there brains fell out. I didn’t know that Debbie Schlussel, frontpagemag, newsmax, and Daniel Pipes were hate sites? Maybe Jihad Watch is too. Amazing!!!

  16. Every vote does count!! Even if McCain cannot win New York or New Jersey, the popular vote has a symbolic resonance. Every vote for McCain is counted and the country takes notice! A tremendous turnout in the frum community would be a kiddush Hashem and would help us to keep the issues that we care about on the agenda. Not least of which is saving the country from socialized healthcare and job losses far and above what we’ve seen already. Vote McCain for ethical leadership and experience and a true friend to the Jewish people!!

  17. Btw dan, and all other sheep, there is a story on drudge That palestinians are trying to get their vote in for obama. In other words, the one that will be called apon To protect millions of jews. do you want someone who is supported by the other side, yingela?

  18. I agree about this administration. however the most important issue for jews , which i’m not sure you are is israel and the millions of jewish lives there. and if you think that he is better for isra

  19. bacci40, President Bush did not “force” Israel to pull out of Gaza. Unfortunately, PM Sharon did not need any convincing on the part of the Americans to do so. President Bush has consistently stood by Israel and the Jewish people, whether in the UN or in front of the American public. We have every indication that John McCain will be the same steadfast friend of Israel, as his record demonstrates. If the disengagement from Gaza upset you, you dont want to know what kind of pressure Obama (and his advisers) would love to put on Israel to withdraw from Chevron, Beitar, Kiryat Sefer, etc etc and surrendering (whatever little control Israel still has over) Har Habayis.

  20. bacci40, palin is not running for president, and if mccain can campaign for months without incident, he can probably make it another couple of years

Palin can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

  22. Wake UP!

If everyone on the thread supports McCain and Palin, they are calling for more Bush years. They can expect a less influential and more militaristic America and Israeli problems to get worse.

An Obama Administration can bring more stability to the region. Considering the world over has more support for Obama than a Republican should strike an obvious chord with everyone on this thread. We can negotiate rather than make pre-emptive strikes that make things worse for everyone. We can limit the influence of the Iran with lower oil prices in peacetime. The fact Obama has a unique name should not frigthen you about what he stands for. Any name calling is a blatent and ignorant step away from the issues.

Palin is the most under-qualified candidate in the race, bottom line. She has a fundamental and borderline evangelical world view.

Palin could not be worse for America and Israel. her and evangelicals support for Israel is based on a coming apocalypse, not because they really want to make peace in the region work for everyone. Palin represents everything wrong in Republican party leadership on a fundamental and scary Christian political level that would destablize the region even more if elected with McCain.

  23. Dan makes a lot of actual points on the issue rather than just talk. Each Presidential ticket should be judged by President & VP…fyi.

Every American president is going to be pro-Israel, its part of reason we are chided throughout the rest of the world. Our leaders answer to a strong Jewish-American contigent and people need to relax.

Sheep are people that go along with Bush McCain strategy to “stay the course” without consideration to how events develop. The whole reason Obama became a strong member of Democrats was his ability to talk about mistakes of this war. This why you can expect an Obama victory.

I don’t understand how more Jews are not scared of a militaristic America, with intolerable Christian leaders like Palin.

  24. tom, what on earth are you talking about?! neither mccain nor palin is militaristic AT ALL, unless you count not wanting negotitae with achmadenejad (GASP! how DARE they!) and anyway, the vp doesn’t decide anything, the president does. and at least mccain has more than 1 term of experince and doesn’t want to “spread the wealth”!!!

  25. and besides, at least palin supports Israel, no matter why! look who supports and advises obama:

Palestinian Ibrahim Abu Jayab, 24, is seen next to his computer, in his family house in Nusayrat refugee camp, central Gaza Strip, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008. A young Palestinian in a Gaza refugee camp is doing his part to get out the vote for Barack Obama. With a little help from the Internet, 24-year-old Ibrahim Abu Jayab is cold calling random American families from his parent’s home imploring them to vote Obama.

On the eve of a planned meeting with former President Jimmy Carter, the isolated Hamas terrorist organization has expressed “hope” Sen. Barack Obama will win the presidential elections and “change” America’s foreign policy. “We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the elections,” Ahmed Yousuf, Hamas’ top political adviser in the Gaza Strip, said in an exclusive interview with WND and with the John Batchelor Show on WABC Radio in New York.

    Obama’s anti-Israel advisors
    By Alan Simons
Ask many American Jews what they think about Zbigniew Brzezinski, a former national security advisor who served under President Carter, and you’ll receive a multitude of comments of which the vast majority aren’t particularly favourable. These comments can perhaps best be summed up in one sentence. “He’s no friend of Israel.”
Brzezinski is one in a list of advisors that have recently joined the Obama campaign. David Bonior is another member of Obama’s team. As a Congressman, Bonior was known for his strong opposition to pro-Israel policies, being called by some “the biggest supporter of the anti-Israel Arab lobby in Congress.” (Jonathan Tobin, Jewish World Review,7/12/99).
General Tony McPeak is also part of Obama’s team, and Robert Malley, who according to Daniel Pipes, is a sympathizer of the PLO, recently had to resign ‘after it was emerged that he was talking to Hamas.’ Malley is the Director of the Middle East/North Africa Program at the International Crisis Group (ICG). Brzezinski, sits as a member on ICGs Board.

    obama’s advisers are all anti-israel.
