Rav Ovadia: I Will Not Meet with Rav Amnon Yitzchak

In a meeting held on Wednesday evening the eve of 6 Shevat 5773, Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita is quoted as telling a group of Yemenite rabbonim “It is most unfortunate that I have had so much bitul Torah. Rav Amnon Yitzchak won’t listen to me anyway.”

The rabbonim visited the Gadol Hador after tefillas Maariv, and the candidacy of Rav Amnon was discussed during the meeting. Rav Ovadia is quoted as saying he does not wish to meet with him, not out of anger, but because of the bitul Torah caused by the issue of his running for Knesset.

“He directs his anger at my family; degrades and insults them, and they have done nothing. They did not say anything. They told me to come to you. I told them not to,” the rav is quoted as saying at the start of the meeting with the rabbonim.

“I do not believe that he will hear me. Why should I interrupt Torah study to engage in mundane talk? It is not that I hate him but for as long as he will not listen to me, והם לא יאמינו לי ולא ישמעו בקולי, there is simply nothing I can do.

“The Torah is not for Ashkenazim but for all of Bnei Yisrael. Assist us so we can be there for everyone. Assist our party which exists to advance Torah for Am Yisrael. You are all loved, beloved, and holy and we are all of one opinion.”

  1. To those who saw the video it is obvious that the video was
edited and at least one part was omitted so you cannot tell the
full scope of Harav Ovadia Yosef’s message. There are more question
marks regarding the relationships between the two that make you
wonder that maybe Maran Harav Ovadia is not in full charge – to say
the leas – in these relationships.
