The Day Google Went Down

google.jpgStarting on the morning of May 14, at about 10:45 AM Eastern Time, Google and its related services starting to move extremely slowly. In some cases, Google services are reported to have completely stopped working.

Users in NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco report that Google searches were running at historically low speeds. There were similar reports from users based in Europe and Australia.

In addition, Google services like Google News and Gmail are completely failing. The Internet Storm Center is saying that it’s received multiple “reports of a total fail of Google Applications. Gmail, Reader, Docs, News, Apps. etc.”

The Storm Center also states that it has “Reports of Google working in some areas (West Coast, co.uk, and others), however the outage appears to pretty widespread for the most part. Probably depends on which Google Data Center you are connected to.”

The problems could be down to corrupted routing tables, or could be for some other reason entirely. There are reports that AT&T has also suffered outages.

Google spokespeople told ZDNet UK they “had heard reports” of issues with Google, and would contact us when they knew the cause of the problems.

Just a while ago, Google has said that they are investigating.

“We’re aware some users are having trouble accessing some Google services,” said Google. “We’re looking into it, and we’ll update everyone soon.”

  3. Actually, I wanted to laaunch a Web Site named “Reb Google” that will deal with Jewish topics, but the name “Reb Google” is already out there.

  4. Live in Belgium I used it from dawn till midnight (my time) everything worked including gmail, utube, google search, gtalk, blogger etc.

  5. Many afternoons – Israel time – GMail won’t send/download in Outlook. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting options out there. Spoke to Microsoft who told me it’s a problem with Google. Does anyone out there know anything about this, and can give me some direction?
