According to a report appearing in the London-based al-Hayat, the United States is pressuring Israel not to comply with Hamas demands to release Fatah Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti and other terrorists who murdered innocent people.
According to the report, in Israel’s response to Hamas, Jerusalem is refusing to release 22 terrorists, 15 residents of PA autonomous areas in Yehuda and Shomron, a move that is strongly supported by the US administration, the newspaper reports, quoted by the weekly Makor Rishon.
In the meantime, despite Hamas’ rejection of the Israeli response, some Hamas officials are releasing messages that all hope is not lost and negotiations to close a deal that would result in the release of Gilad Shalit for some 1,000 terrorists is still possible.
