Pittsburgh: Fire Department gets Rabbi Chaplain

fd1.jpgFor the firefighters at Guyasuta Volunteer Fire Department in O’Hara, having a rabbi as their first chaplain is not a religious issue. “It’s interesting because few of our members are Jewish, but that did not enter the discussion when we discussed having a chaplain,” said 11-year member Dr. Steven Reise, of O’Hara. Eretz Yisroel get snow

s2.jpgs1.jpgSnow began falling in the Yerushalayim area on Thursday morning, after a heavy snow blanketed the Chermon area overnight. Schools in the northern Golan Heights area were closed. Classes in Yerushalayim, were in session as usual. Public transportation in Yerushalaym, was not affected by the snow.

blac.jpgAn extraordinary collaboration between the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Lakewood Police Department and the Orthodox Jewish Community of Lakewood, New Jersey took place at Lake Terrace in Lakewood, New Jersey on Tuesday, March 13, 2007.

The day long event entitled Bagels, Lox and Cops: Getting to Know the Orthodox Jewish Community provided an opportunity for representatives of the Orthodox Jewish Community to share cultural concerns with law enforcement personnel from throughout Ocean County. US House passes resolution for missing soldiers

Israel denounces new Taiwan Neo-Nazi group

A group of Taiwanese university students has set up a Nazi political movement advocating national unity, strength and curbing immigration, the group’s co-founder said Wednesday. The National Socialism Association currently has 20 paid-up members, with another 800 who have used the group’s Web site to indicate an interest in joining, co-founder Chao Lahn, 24, said. (more…)

Poland: Woman who saved 2,500 Jews gets honoured

warsaw ghetto.jpgA Polish woman who helped save the lives of 2,500 Jewish children during World War II is due to be honoured by Poland’s parliament. Irena Sendlerowa, a former social worker who is now 97, organised the rescue from the Warsaw ghetto with the help of the Polish underground army. (more…)

Russia: Jewish Kevarim desecrated

cemetery.jpgUnidentified vandals smashed over 20 Kevarim in a Jewish cemetery in Voronezh, Russia. Local prosecutors have tied the case together with an earlier incident in the same cemetery. That incident took place earlier this year when vandals painted swastikas on Kevarim.

Canadian Army gets Frum Chaplain

Rocks thrown at car of Yerushalayim Deputy Mayor

Yehoshua Polak.jpgSeveral men from the Meah Shearim neighborhood threw rocks at the car belonging to Deputy Mayor Yehoshua Pollak. No injuries were reported, but his vehicle sustained damages. (It’s interesting to note, that less than a month ago YW reported [HERE] of an incident where Mayor Uri Lupolianski was assaulted while attending the Bris of a son of Yehoshua Pollak.)
