According to WNBC, NYC Mayor Bloomberg has instructed his commissioners – in all agencies – to devise plans for the deepest budget cuts in recent NYC history. (This includes the NYPD!) Bloomberg’s requests amount to $500 million this year and $1 billion next year.

Cutting NYPD’s budget is a really bad idea. The net effect will be people moving out of the city due to crime.
Supposedly the new budget will not affect teachers, police men, and firefighters (read that in the Daily News)
If he had not raised spending including reopening up welfare hotels, he would not find himself in this Abe Beame like mess.
