District Court Rejects Sheik Raed Salah’s Appeal

The Haifa District Court rejected the appeal filed by Sheikh Raed Salah for the decision of the Haifa Magistrate’s Court to detain him until the end of proceedings, after he determined that his statements constituted a tangible danger to the public welfare. “This is truer when a criminal record is rich in similar offenses and it turns out that he does not fear the authorities of the law, and that he is not afraid of the law,” wrote Judge Erez Porat in his decision. Repeatedly attacks the government and the security authorities ‘in a manner that encourages more acts of terror against them. ”

He describes how Salah published his own Facebook account on various occasions, calling for violence or terrorism in an unlawful fashion. In addition, he published statements of praise, sympathy and encouragement for a terrorist act both at Friday prayers and at the funeral of terrorists from Um al-Fahm who carried out the attack on Har Habayis, where the policemen Hayil Sethawi and Kamil Shanan were murdered.

Support and backing for those who chose to confront the security forces on Har Habayis and the general area, while the appellant notes that he welcomes those who confront him, and is not afraid to be wounded and spill his blood … The appellant is an authority and endorses and even calls for violence to continue”.

The court continued, explaining the appellant presents a threat to public safety by his actions and statements and therefore, the appeal cannot be accepted.
