VIDEO: MK Eichler On Teva Pharmaceutical Strikers And Shmiras Shabbos

(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

MK Yisrael Eichler in Knesset addressed the striking Teva Pharmaceutical employees, embracing them and their battle to keep their jobs.

Together with this, he turned to his fellow MKs and expressed criticism against those who were angered over delays on the train on Sunday due to Shmiras Shabbos, citing their hypocrisy as now, when it came to shutting down the nation for four hours on Sunday to save jobs, there was no outcry about being inconvenienced or delays.

  1. Teva is a publicly traded company that has a fiduciary obligations to its shareholders and is not required to maintain any minimum number of employees in EY or anywhere else if markets change (as they have for generics). If they have any legal agreements with EY to maintain a certain level of employment in return for tax benefits, etc., thats a different issue and those agreements should be enforced. Otherwise, the laid off employees should look for new jobs in the same or other industries. Generic drug companies all over the world are laying off employees, and there is no expectation that Teva would be any different. Their shareholders are already hurting due to the substantial decline in stock prices.
