IDF Lightens Restrictions for Ramadan


idffAs is the annual custom, Israel has given the IDF the go-ahead to lighten restrictions on PA (Palestinian Authority) and Gaza residents wishing to travel during Ramadan. The Muslim holy month is observed this ear from June 18 to July 17.

The IDF Coordinator of Activities in the Territories Major-General Yoav Mordechai announced arrangements would be made to accommodate persons cleared for entry to participate in prayer services on Har Habayis, in al-Aqsa Mosque. Bus service will bring PA residents from both Ramallah and Bet Lechem.

Regarding Gazans, arrangements will be made on a case by case basis to permit travel to and from PA areas, particularly permitting PA residents to visit with family in Gaza. Mordechai’s office will also accommodate 650 Arabs living abroad who wish to visit with relatives in PA areas. About 500 PA residents will travel via Ben-Gurion International Airport.

There are also permits given to hundreds wishing to travel to Mecca for their haj pilgrimage.

In a message to PA officials, Israel made it very clear that any escalation in violence during this time period will be met with a forcible response.
