Deri Furious of Chilul Shabbos Surrounding Tel Aviv Light Rail

deriThe Maariv Bridge was detonated in a controlled blast on Friday, 6 Elul as work on the Tel Aviv light rail begins. The debris was removed over the weekend, including Shabbos. The chilul Shabbos prompted Shas party leader Aryeh Deri to send an angry letter to Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz. In his letter, Deri pointed out chilul Shabbos to expedite the project is unacceptable.

Deri also sent a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, demanding he and Katz make sure the chilul Shabbos ends with this one incident. He stressed there was no pikuach nefesh involved and therefore no justification for the chilul Shabbos.

Deri warned that if there is a repeat of the chilul Shabbos on this or other government projects there would be consequences as he party will not tolerate such a situation.

  1. Yosroel katz responded back, “we are furious with curuption, there is no pekuach nefesh and we will not tolerate it in the future.”

  2. And I am furious with Deri that as a convicted thief he is in the government and i am furious with Shas that as a so called religious party they are so corrupt

  3. Fury does not prevent or discourage chillul shabbos.
    Try a different method.
And dont say that Americans just dont understand how things work in Israel, because the standard chareidi methods have consistantly failed to inspire the general population until now.Perhaps they should re assess.

  4. Oy, he’s so furious. That’s why he didn’t say a word BEFORE the demolition, when he could have actually done something about it.

  5. Maybe if Deri and Yosef would stop their obstruction of progressive policies than there would be no need to be machellel Shabbos.
