Increased Security for President of the Supreme Court Surrounding Shul Demolition Order

gzsAn increase has been ordered in the security detail for Supreme Court President Justice Miriam Naor due to the court’s decision to move ahead with the demolition of the Beit Knesset Ayelet HaShachar in Givat Ze’ev. In what appears to be the court’s final decision, the shul will have to be razed within two weeks. Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita intervened, sending a letter to Justice Naor, asking that at the very least, to delay the demolition until a new shul can be set in place in line with halacha.

Earlier this week, hundreds of mispallalim and supporters were holed up in the shul, with one person explaining they placed cooking gas tanks all over to keep the bulldozers and police away.

When the court announced its final decision on Wednesday, 22 Cheshvan, it was just hours after police found graffiti on an outer wall of the Supreme Court building which read “We don’t destroy shuls – we want a Jewish state”. The ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) a week ago stepped up security for High Court Justice Uzi Fogelman following his ruling not to destroy the homes of terrorists.

Gabbai David Harush earlier in the week told Kikar Shabbos News that he and many others will tied themselves to pillars in the shul aside cooking gas cylinders to prevent the destruction of their shul.
