Terror Victim’s Son Calls On Justice Minister To Dismiss Judge Who Permitted Terrorist To Remain Free For Additional Time

1The son of Richard Lakin HY”D, who was killed in a terrorist attack on board a bus in Armon HaNatziv in 2016, is calling for the dismissal of Jerusalem District Court Justice Chagit Mac-Kalmanovich. She is the judge who permitted the terrorist responsible for Sunday’s fatal Jerusalem shooting attack to remain a free man, agreeing to his request to remain out of prison for additional time prior to serving his sentence.

MK Yehuda Glick has also spoken out against the judge, posting on his private Facebook page that the blood of the victims from this attack is on her hands. Two people were murdered in the attack and others wounded.

Lakin’s son, attorney Micha Avni spoke to Arutz-7 News, explaining the judge was appointment by the State Judicial Appointments Committee and that same committee headed by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, can remove her from the bench. When asked if he is aware of such a precedent, Avni said no but reassured Arutz-7 that the Justice Minister has the authority to remove her.

Avni explains the decision makers must see to it that the nation’s judges are concerned with protecting the security of residents and the case in point is a serious one. The court granted the terrorist a five-month hiatus prior to reporting to prison, sufficient time to plan the final attack because he had to work in his father’s store or any other reason given.

Avni concluded “The judge preferred the welfare of the terrorist over the security of the nation. This is a failure that disqualifies her from continuing to serve as a judge in Israel and enjoy the trust of the public”.

Avni calls on Justice Minister Shaked to use the authority of her office and remove Mac-Kalmanovich, who he feels must be held accountable for her error.
