IDF Reports Some Of The Cadets Took Up Position And Fired

06In the surveillance video taken from the scene of the Armon HaNatziv vehicular ramming attack, the soldiers are seen running rather than firing at the attacker driving the truck.

Eitan Rund, the citizen who fired at and neutralized the terrorist told the news on Sunday that most of the group, cadets attending officers training, ran from the scene. He feels this was in part due to the manslaughter conviction handed down against Sgt. Elor Azariya, which has soldiers afraid to fire their weapons today.

He told the news he was unable to understand why there were some 40 soldiers and they did not open fire at the truck driver until after he fired his weapon.

However, hours after the murderous attack, the initial IDF probe revealed a number of cadets did fire as one would expect them to act. It was later reported that when Eitan spoke to the media all the facts were not in and while many cadets fled, there are those who opened fire at the attacking truck and it was not just Eitan who fired at the driver – thereby neutralizing the attack.

IDF Colonel Alaluf arrived at the scene and spoke with the cadets and established that at least two cadets fired from close range. The probe continues.

  1. Two soldiers out of what appears to be dozens on site, doesn’t make me feel much better. Soldiers had no reason to be running away, not the ones not immediately adjacent to the truck at least. They train for this.

  2. First of all you should be דן לכּף זכות and not rush to judge אחינו בּני ישׂראל.
Secondly, were you ever in a similar scenario and are confident you would act differently? Its one thing to hear about an incident and make a conscious decision to approach, as opposed to it being thrown upon you and the natural tendency of humans to survive and run kicks in.
Thirdly, most of these were cadets with minimal training, and they were not training for combat roles.
