Stocks Gain 9/03

(Friday, September 3rd, 2010)

Stocks closed higher for the fourth straight session Friday after a better-than-expected jobs report gave investors another reason to think the U.S. economy is beginning to turn around.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose more than 125 points to end near the session highs, snapping a three-week losing streak. The market gained in the last hour of the session, although volume was light.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were also higher. The CBOE Volatility Index, widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, fell more than 6 percent, below 22.
