(Wednesday, July 30th, 2008)

In a 52-11 vote, the Knesset on Monday passed a bill into law that amends the process by which justices are appointed to the Supreme Court.

The new law demands that 7 of the 9 members of the selection committee approve an appointment. The selection committee is made up of three Supreme Court members including the president, two representatives of the Israel Bar Association, the justice minister and another cabinet minister, two opposition MKs.
