Laborites Concerned Over Decline in Polls

(Thursday, August 28th, 2008)

Senior Labor Party officials are concerned as election polls continue to show the party’s sharp decline in the next election.

According to reports, some senior party officials are beginning to take steps towards ousting party leader, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, hoping to elect Binyamin Ben-Eliezer in his place. Barak was only elected about a year ago, but polls show his leadership is failing and the party’s popularity is dropping steadily.

Ami Ayalon, the former ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) director known for his pro left-wing political views, has announced he is not ruling out running as a contender if primaries are held before the national elections.
