Baruch Hashem, rescuer Menashe [ben Shulamit] Kalifa, 41, is breathing unassisted, doctors in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital report, but they add his condition is still quite serious and he is in need of Am Yisrael�s tefillos. Kalifa remains in an intensive care unit but has been taken off mechanical respiratory assistance.

Kalifa jumped into the Ramat Eshkol manhole last week in an effort to save 3-year-old Rachel Sofer A”H.

The physician who pronounced Kalifa dead, Dr. Rach, who also prevented advanced life support resuscitation on Rachel, has been to appear before MDA Director-General Bin today, Monday, with Bin promising a thorough investigation into the matter in light of mounting public criticism of the physician�s handling of the case.
