Jerusalem Police Prepare for First Friday of Ramadan

(Friday, August 28th, 2009)

Jerusalem police are on heightened alert status today, the first Friday of Ramadan.

As is the norm, males under 50 and females under 45 will not be permitted on Har HaBayis for Muslim prayer services. Statistics show that terrorism and disturbances are carried out by the younger people, leading to the age restrictions.

Thousands of police, border police and specialized units will be deployed in Yerushalayim, with an emphasis placed on the Old City.
