Knesset Extends State of Emergency

(Tuesday, March 24th, 2009)

The Knesset on Monday night authorized a four-month extension for the ‘state of the emergency’ which has existed since 1948. 32 MKs voted in favor, 7 opposed and 2 abstentions.

Despite the majority, many of the MKs spoke against the extension and the many laws included in the emergency move that are not really related to the current situation. MKs asked that this is the last time that the state of emergency is extended. (Yechiel Spira – YWN Israel)
