NYC Council Hearing Examines Sandy Preparedness, Response

Hurricane Sandy is on the agenda as the City Council examines the city’s performance before and after the storm. Officials from the mayor’s office, fire and police departments are all expected to testify.

The Council wants to find out how the city’s evacuation plan, emergency response efforts, and disaster planning fared during the storm.

It’s the first of several meetings set for this month and next.

The Council is weighing proposals including the possibility of burying more power lines and requiring boilers to be set higher off the ground in flood-prone buildings.

Other topics will include utilities and public housing.
