United Hatzalah, Israel’s largest volunteer emergency medical service, has unveiled a new pilot program introducing electric “AmbuScooters” designed to shorten response times in Israel’s most congested urban centers.
The organization is deploying an initial fleet of ten lightweight, specially adapted electric scooters in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The vehicles are built to maneuver through heavy traffic and narrow streets, enabling volunteers to reach medical emergencies more quickly in areas where conventional ambulances and cars often face delays.
The move supports United Hatzalah’s nationwide goal of achieving a 90-second response time.
“These AmbuScooters help us stay ahead of the challenges of modern-day city life,” said Eli Beer, the organization’s president and founder. “In places like Tel Aviv, where traffic and parking slow everything down, this fleet will allow our volunteers to get to emergencies without losing precious seconds.”
The AmbuScooters join the organization’s broader emergency response network, which includes ambulances, AmbuCars, and AmbuCycles. Each scooter is equipped with a full medic kit and a defibrillator, allowing volunteers to begin lifesaving treatment immediately upon arrival.
The pilot is being funded through private donations.
“Our volunteers come from all walks of life, united by a mission to save lives,” Beer said. “This new tool helps them do that even faster and more efficiently.”
