NEW INFO: Infants May Have Died From Dehydration Caused by Extreme Heat From Air Conditioner

New developments have emerged in the investigation into the tragic deaths of two infants at a private daycare in Jerusalem.

Following initial examinations at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, authorities say no dangerous or toxic substances were found in the bodies of the infants. As a result, investigators have moved away from earlier suspicions of poisoning.

According to current assessments, the leading direction of the investigation is dehydration caused by extreme heat, apparently from an air conditioner operating at unusually high temperatures. Officials are now awaiting legal authorization to conduct additional testing, which would allow for a definitive determination of the cause of death.

Earlier concerns that the infants may have been exposed to toxic substances were largely dismissed after checks by Fire and Rescue Services. The agency said that tests conducted with specialized equipment at the scene did not detect any hazardous or poisonous materials.

In addition, blood tests performed on the other infants from the daycare who were evacuated to Jerusalem hospitals did not reveal any abnormal findings.

The investigation remains ongoing.
