POLICE UNDER SCRUTINY: Court Orders Investigation After Officer Filmed Spraying Pepper Spray at Chareidi Protesters [VIDEOS]

A police officer was filmed using pepper spray against Chareidi protesters who were sitting at the entrance to the home of the Jerusalem Traffic Division commander, prompting a court order for an official investigation.

According to a report by Ynet, the officer used a personal pepper spray device that, under police procedures, is generally designated for restraining individuals who are under arrest.

Following the incident, the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court instructed the Police Internal Investigations Department (Machash) to open a probe into the matter.

A senior official in the Jerusalem District reportedly acknowledged to Ynet that the incident was “problematic.”

Machash is now expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and determine whether the use of pepper spray during the protest was justified and in accordance with police regulations.
