President Donald Trump said Thursday that a landmark agreement with Iran to formally end the conflict is nearing completion, predicting that the deal could be signed within days at a ceremony in Europe.
Speaking during an event in the Oval Office, Trump said negotiations have reached their final stages.
“The documents are pretty final shape, so we’ll see,” Trump said. “That should be done pretty quickly.”
He added that Vice President JD Vance is expected to attend the signing ceremony, which could take place in Europe.
Calling it “a great settlement,” Trump said the agreement would mark a significant achievement for regional stability.
“It should get done over the next few days, probably have a signing in Europe, and it’s a great thing,” Trump said. “The stock market is up. The stock market likes the deal. If it goes down it means they don’t like it.”
Trump also reflected on the recent U.S. military campaign against Iran, touting the scale of the strikes ordered under his administration.
“I turned off the lights. And we took out, some nights, 25 ships, some nights 15, last 4 or 5 nights we did 25, 22, 21, 26, 18 and 14. Who else would remember those numbers?” he said.
The president revealed that he had spoken Thursday with several world leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the heads of several Gulf nations.
Separately, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also held a phone call with Trump, according to a statement from the Qatari Emiri Diwan.
The statement said the two leaders reviewed the results of U.S.-Iran consultations that had produced progress on proposed understandings as part of the ongoing negotiations.
According to the Qatari readout, Trump told the emir that efforts are continuing to complete the final procedures before announcing arrangements for the signing of the agreement.
