QATARGATE EXPANDS: Prosecutors Reportedly Weigh Charges Against Former Mossad Official and Ex-General Polly Mordechai

Israel’s State Prosecutor’s Office is reportedly leaning toward filing a broad indictment in the Qatargate affair that would extend beyond former aides to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and include additional figures, among them a former senior Mossad official and Maj. Gen. (res.) Polly Mordechai.

According to a report by i24NEWS, prosecutors recently sought an additional assessment from the Mossad regarding the alleged impact of the affair on Israel’s relationship with Qatar. The request followed reported remarks by Mossad Director David Barnea suggesting the case did not cause damage to Israel’s national security.

The legal review comes after an earlier Shin Bet assessment reportedly examined potential harm to Israel’s ties with Egypt. The Mossad’s opinion has been submitted to prosecutors but was reportedly returned for further clarifications before a final decision is made.

Officials are said to be weighing two options: a narrower indictment focused on an alleged influence campaign promoting Qatari interests through Israeli media figures, or a broader indictment that would also encompass the separate “Lighthouse” affair, which reportedly involves former senior security officials.

While prosecutors are said to favor the broader approach, no final decision has yet been made by the Attorney General or the State Attorney.
