Stabbing Attack – Katyusha Rockets Continue [11:41 IL – 05:41 EST]


10:43: A female solder was stabbed and moderately wounded according to preliminary information. The attack occurred at a Pisgat Ze’ev light rail station in the capital a short time ago.

In Beersheva, a katyusha rocket landed a short time ago. It was the second katyusha fired into Israel this morning, Thursday, March 15, 2012. There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Additional information will be provided on both attack when it becomes available.

10:51: The katyusha rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome.

10:55: The stabbing victim is listed in serious condition, transported to the trauma unit of Shaare Zedek Hospital. The attacker is described to be an Arab male, who fled towards Shuafat.

11:01: The stabbing victim sustained numerous stab wounds to her abdomen and/or chest. Traumatologists at Shaare Zedek Medical Center are working to save her life. The attacker is not in custody. The soldier is reportedly 19-years-old. The attack took place near Yekutiel Adam Street in the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood of the capital.

 11:11: The katyusha rocket intercepted by Iron Dome was blown apart over Beersheva’s largest school. Many fragments fell down below. City officials praise the mayor’s decision who insisted on defying the IDF Homefront Command’s directive to reopen southern area schools.

The mayor explained the “just a few rockets” is unacceptable, and until the rocket fire is halted he will not permit the city’s children be on the front lines.

11:17: The attacker stabbed the soldier inside the train just as it was stopping and made a clean getaway when the doors opened at the station.

11:32: Border police apprehended the terrorist who stabbed the IDF soldier at the Kalandia Checkpoint.

11:41: Shaare Zedek Hospital reports the soldier’s condition has been stabilized and she is listed in moderate condition. She was stabbed in her chest, near the heart, as well as in her abdomen and hand. She is being taken to an intensive care unit from the trauma unit at this time. Physicians are evaluating her condition regarding surgical intervention.
