Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Shabbos played down the significance of reported Rosh Hashanah greetings from Iranian President Hassan Rohani and Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. The news surrounded Twitter messages attributed to the newly-elected Iranian leaders.
Mr. Netanyahu told the media he was “not impressed” and pointed out the regime will be judged by its actions and not words. He warned that as leaders are speaking and being credited with saying the correct thing, that country continues forging ahead towards nuclear independence.
However, after Rosh Hashanah Presidential advisor Mohammad Reza Sadeq stated the president does not have a Twitter account and it appears one was opened using his name, explaining away the reported holiday greeting to the Jewish People.

Both the President and the Foreign Minister of Iran confirmed they sent out a tweet saying Happy Rosh Hashana. This is a positive development for the Jewish community. It demonstrates that Iran is not anti-Jewish but rather anti-Israel. Yes, there is a major difference. And Iran has the largest Jewish community in the Middle East outside of Israel. And they have a guaranteed Representative in the Iranian parliament. And the Persian-Jewish community has lived there for about 3,000 years.
No.2: The vast majority of Persian Jews have moved to the US and other Western nations, and Israel. I believe that the Jewish population of Iran is now in the range of 5,000, and most are well past child-bearing years.
