NYPD Highway 2 vs Hatzolah!!

hw2 cover.jpgAt 4:00PM this coming Tuesday July 31, the smell of kosher hot dogs, cut grass and the sounds of cheering crowds will be heard in the world famous Coney Island Keyspan Park – as the NYPD Highway 2 Division will “play ball” against Flatbush Hatzolah in a charity softball game. The game was organized by the NYPD Highway 2 Division, and will be open to the public for the first time. Raphael Treitel, a Flatbush Hatzolah Member – who helped organize the game – spoke with Yeshivaworld and told us of the uniqueness of this particular game.

He told us that for the past number of years, Flatbush Hatzolah has been playing weekly summer baseball games against various NYC agencies – such as NYPD and FDNY to foster a spirit of camaraderie and friendship. These ball games have successfully enhanced the unique relationship between the various agencies and Hatzoloh, and gives all a chance to “get out of the work uniform” and further enhance the important partnerships and understanding that the community can really count on. While always competitive, the games have been enjoyed by all.
Precinct commanders rave about the dividends paid off and Brooklyn South Boro Chief Fox himself places great importance on this ongoing successful community interaction.

This game will naturally be for fun – but will also be played with another objective -a community Kiddush Hashem.

But how is a baseball game going to be a Kiddush Hashem, you may be wondering?

The answer is that Flatbush Hatzolah has decided to change the setting of the game from a standard NYC park, to play the game at the beautiful Keyspan Park home of the Brooklyn Cyclones.

The event will be charging a small entrance fee with all proceeds going to the family of injured NYPD Highway 2 Officer Scot Abrams.

Due to the historic proportions of the game, there are rumors that NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly will attend, and many NYPD Chiefs attending & playing the game as well.

Tickets will be available at the door for only $10.00 per person. The game is scheduled for 4:00PM, but the gates will open at 3:00PM. Kosher hot dogs & other food will be available as well. (Keyspan Park is located on Surf Avenue at West 16th Street in Coney Island.)

Discounts are available for groups and/or camps, and sponsorship opportunities are available.
As the time of the game is early (4:00PM) and really affordable, Hatzoloh hopes that day camps and families will choose to attend this important community event.

For more information, please call Raphael Treitel (F-70) at 917-613-6482.

As one of the Coordinators of Flatbush Hatzolah told Yeshivaworld, “If we can rally the community to attend we have the makings of a true Kiddush Hashem.”

(Photos of this exciting game will be posted on Yeshivaworld.)

See-Ya at the game! –YW Editor.

  1. I can’t imagine how much those franks are going to cost. Traifa ballpark franks (hot dogs b’laz) are expensive enough – Kosher ballpark franks? forget it! I will stick to kugel and cholent at Sloatsburg!

  2. himmelstein – in the several major league stadiums where I have attended games and where kosher hot dogs are sold, the kosher dogs are the same price as the treife dogs – both outrageously expensive, but like a coke from concession stand “A” and a coke from concession stand “B” it’s the same price

the image of devouring chulent during a ball game brings only good images to my mind

  3. The game starts at 4. Plenty of time to catch most of the game and get back to the Q (which I suspect will be an all night-er anyway!)

Plenty of legal parking available. All the illegal spots will be used by Hatzolah & PD 😉

Perhaps we can have a YW section. Everyone come & wear a tag with your screen name (if you dare). I will be easy to find. Just look for the Grumpy Old Man.

    GOM
