She sits in the dark
Alone
Huddled
Curling herself
Into a small space.
Music on
Loud and beating
Her heart pounding
To the same rhythm.
And her pain
For just a few moments
Is dulled
She cannot feel it
Because the music drowns it out.
And then
She must leave her space
Re-enter the real world
Her pain comes rushing back
With full force.
She trembles
And braces herself
To face the world.
