Boys’ schools offer Gemara prep at a young age – flash cards, mishnayos from third/fourth grade (chutz laaretz), etc. The whole conditioning and prep is different. It’s a bit different from a hundred or so years ago when girls could wander into a bais medrash, or heard it in the home on a regular basis.
