Raboisai this is my last call to the oilam ‏ ‏לכבוד ‏עשרת ימי תשובה the oilam should quit ywn RIGHT AWAY and with this be zoche to do teshuva Shleimah this Yom kipper and not be ‏טובל ושרץ בידו חס ושלום this Yom Kippur,

To the oilam that doesn’t even chap(doesn’t want to admit) there’s anything wrong with ywn, what about 1) bitul zman 2) pictures of UNTZNIUS ladies on the news site (completely ussor) 3) pictures of tznius ladies on the news site (hashakaficly very wrong PLUS could be an avierah rachmana litzlan) 4)chatting with men and women on the coffee room 5) developing feeling of friendship and closeness to the opposite gender through the chats on the coffee room (ONE example of how that happens, user 1: Biden is stupid user 2: he’s the best he’s so good for the country blah blah blah. user 3: user 1 is so right it’s so emes how can user 2 be so stupid here’s why user 1 is right blah blah blah blah…) 6) numbers 4 and 5 are especially problematic when one knows that a certain user is the opposite gender 7)lashon hara in the news 8) lashon hara in the coffee room 9) there’s a separate prohibition to hear/read loshon hara and writing it, plus accepting loshon hara is another problem 10)motzei Shem ra 11) devorim bteilem

I’m urging especially those that have been on here for awhile to PLEASE quit even though it feels right after doing it so long (or it feels to hard to stop and/or yiush) and all those that think I’m being extreme to pls actually think about what I’m saying rather than just read it and move on

In closing, I would like to say one last thing, why should I care so much, why should it matter to me that ywn is being used if you ask yourself this you’ll realize I’m not doing this for another reason. I’m not some competitor looking to make money I’m not looking for fame, Ijust care about HASHEM and yidden and I know avieros destroy the world, (and the person doing them). and so I’m trying to get this craziness to stop, or at least make someone think twice before going on here. or at the very least make someone Know that they are doing something wrong (which is the first step, acceptance)

In light of all the above pls think of what I’m saying be ‏מתבונן on it and do action and with Hashem yisborachs ‏רחמים רבים we should be zoche to the geulah shleima bimheirah biyumeinu Umein

Any positive thing this effects should be a big zechus for me to be zoche to be a OVED HASHEM BEMES.

    A gut yur

Moish, תשובה also means an answer. If people learn Torah, it is no bitul zman. The editors avoid non tziniusdig pictures. Feelings are not developed for the invisible and unheard. Shiva helps the mourner psychologically by being able to express their feelings. Similarly, world affairs cause anxieties that people can express here on the CR helping them to learn with more calmness, so it is not bitul zman.

I am ka’h more than 74 years old hitting the 3/4 mark in 4 months, who left Hungary more than 65 years ago when being 9 years old at the Hungarian Revolution. As I stated before, I call myself Reb to teach to give respect to the elderly as it was the custom in Europe. I did not learn in BMG but respect their learning. My purpose mainly is to pass on Torah as the Binah Leitim explains the passage אם למדת תורה הרבה אל תחזיק טובה לעצמך כי לכך נוצרת when you learned much Torah, don’t keep the ‘best’ for yourself as you were created to disseminate it. With this I explained הלומד תורה שלא לשמה מוטב לו שלא נברא, one who learns Torah not for its on sake but the to make himself look good, it would have been better for him not to be born. As he does not abide by the purpose he was created for, there is no reason to have been born.

The CR is what we call an outlet of feelings and opinions being bottled up which can create anxieties, so people will avoid alcohol and drugs.

@ ujm “assailment”. Did you switch off autocorrect or did it just curl up in disgust and disable itself?
@ Moshe It boggled my kind that after considering the entire world and it’s problems, then your city and it’s challenges, your family, friends, and finally yourself, that you felt the thing you needed to do his pretend that the reason people come to YWN is to watch videos of 12 hear old יתומות pleading for support in front of their fathers hospital bed.

    @Moish26,
(@ujm, this applies to you as well, but in general you don’t seem as sincere as Moish, so I doubt this will make a difference)

You may be right. Us readers and commenters may be doing an aveira, or at least something that does not fit with the ruach of yiddishkeit.

But would you walk around on a beach to warn everyone that it’s אסור to be there because of seeing pritzus? As I’ve mentioned before, it seems a bit hypocritical.

Again, I’m not saying you must be perfect before critisizing others, but it’s a bit ironic to try to stop others while doing the VERY SAME aveira (similar to the beach משל).

Here’s an example: It is okay to give a derasha about not speaking during davening even if you yourself know that sometimes you are נכשל.
But if it’s in middle of davening and you are having an animated discussion with someone about how terrible it is that there are others who talk during davening, then you are a hypocrite and no one will listen to you.

If indeed you feel that the website is treif, I suggest you leave YWN and never come back, and instead go to all your family and friends and explain them the problem with YWN, and urge them to spread this to everyone they know.
Or maybe it’s not your business and you should better spend your time learning Torah. Ask your personal rav.

May Hashem guide you to making the proper choice.

If you do not actually feel that using YWN is wrong, and you are just trying to have fun starting conversations etc., keep it up, you’re doing great!

If you are koveya itim like learn a daf on our offline why is bitul zman a sin that requires teshuva. Sounds like Bal Tosif.

A moment of silence for Moishe26, who I’m sure has deleted his account, terminated all internet service, destroyed his smart phone, and dedicated himself to total immersion in תורה and חסד. Those of us not chosen to ascent in rapture with him will need to middle on somehow.

Any ideas for new year resolutions? I’m contemplating דף היומי, and need to be talked down / given better outlets.

    Benephraim,

According to many (most?) poskim, there is an obligation to learn Torah at every moment. This is learned from the possuk in Yehoshua “לא ימוש”.

Wasting even one moment of learning Torah is the serious aveira of bittul torah.

If someone must stop learning in order to make a living, he is permitted to do so, but he must have a set time to learn in morning and night. This is just the minimum shiur, but every free moment from work must be devoted to Torah learning.

If someone needs various entertainment/news outlets as a break in between learning so that he can go back to learning with more vigor, it seems to be מותר (assuming that they are compeletly up to kosher standards).

This idea is in no way bal tosif.

בסנהדרין צט, א מפרש הפסוק “ודבר ה’ בזה . . הכרת תכרת” על כל שאפשר לעסוק בתורה ואינו עוסק. וראה לקוטי אמרים תניא פ”א.

See Tanya ch. 25 that the reason why we say סלח לנו three times a day is because of being עובר the aveira of ביטול תורה.

The Rabbenu Tam explains that we make one Birchas Hatorah a day as we should not be masiach daas, keep our learning in mind the whole day.

There is no baal tosif in learning as there is no fixed amount of learning. Chazal wanted us to set time to learning in order not to forget to learn something. If a person scrutinized his actions and did not find anything wrong should base it on ביטול תורה, not learning enough Torah as if one learned enough, would have found something wrong. אין צדיק בארץ אשר יעשה טוב ולא יחטא, there is no pious person in this world who does all good without any faults.

    #2129791

    > but every free moment from work must be devoted to Torah learning.

There are other things to attend to also. Just look around carefully.

It is true that in some cases someone who learns only needs to participate in a mitzva only if there is nobody else to do it. With this definition, there might still be a lot of things to do: davening/tefilin/lulav/shofar, honor your parents, getting married, teaching your children Torah and a professional job. When you are driving to learn, you are the only person who can stop this huge piece of metal from murdering people. If you have a misfortune to be a heart surgeon, then you may be the only person to save someone’s life. If you are just a stam doctor, you may be the only person to substitute for others during their holidays and thus get time off for your own yomtov and do some darkei shalom, tikkun olam, and kiddush Hashem.

Also, if you are fortunate enough to live in a city of lomdei Torah, then _someone_ needs to do mitzvos. You may hire someone to clean your hose from your meager earnings, but someone needs to do weddings and l’havdil funerals.

    Always,

You are completely right, there are many important reasons stop learning Torah.

I was specifically referring to the incorrect statement that there is nothing wrong with bittul zman (doing nothing important with your time) as long as you are koveya itim to learn Torah once in the morning and once in the evening.

This is actually an argument between Rebbi Shimon bar Yochai and his contemporaries. Rebbi Shimon said that if we do other things, when are we going to learn Torah. The others said that if we learn all the time, when are we going to do mitzvos and other necessities. So, we don’t pasken like Rebbi Shimon.

I recently chanced on (aka hashgoha) on a first volume of “memoirs of Lubavitcher Rebbe” by the next-to-last-one (Fredericke Rebbe?), published in 1940s. I thought it will start with family history, but it is way wider – whole first volume brings stories of 17th century Jews in Belarus (Lubavitch, Vitebsk, Minsk, etc), learning in small groups, travelling, interacting with other hidden mystics and with Polish nobles… This is not a sociological survey of course, but a description of some special people. I presume this is building up rationale for Chasidic movement in these :’litvishe” lands. Many of these stories reflect on same subjects we a re discussing here. some stories refer to this is a future relative of Besht, or Alter Rebbe’s family is related to him, etc. Here are several stories, selected for relevance to our discussions, there are many more standard ones. Mistakes due to my faulty memory, not malice. I am using “mystic” here, I didnt likw the English sefer translated the word, I am trying to guess original Hebrew. Maybe it should be a tzadik or a nistar.

    – one mystic staying with a (special) cobbler. Two non-Jewish peasants brought something to repair, he by mistake charged higher price to the wrong peasant. He then walked for a couple of hours to return 6 cents to the peasant. The mystic questioned “bitul zman”. Cobbler said that generation of flood was stealing less than peruta. Was he going to be 6 times worse than them?!

    – several people were hiding their learning from kavod, insisting on working as cobblers or orchard watchers, only revealing their learning by chance or when needed to argue with a priest that was trying to agitate Polish peasants and convert the Jews. In some cases, they’ll disappear from the town afterwards to go to another place where they will not be known

    – one of them hires a Polish coach to go visit a teacher he heard of. The coachman does not want to take money, saying that he heard from a local Rabbi that people should help each other regardless of their religion. The mystic insists that he never took anything for free that he did not pay for fairly and insists on paying.

    – a couple disappoint their in-laws by refusing to become Rabbis despite their learning and work as cobblers. When an in-law threatens a divorce, the wife says that she is on her husband’s side.

    – in one story, such mystic talks with baalei batim to encourage them to learn more, at the same time talking to Talmidei Chachamim, encouraging them to work some and dress like simple people so that they can relate to them.

    – a nistar is, I think, hiding somewhere for 45 years, then comes to town. Several people talk about hm in public baths, not seeing him, and mention that he was in hiding for 40 years. He corrects them, saying – for 45. After they all leave the bath, some young mystic has hutzpah to admonish the old one in public that this was gaava. A local butcher hears the discussion and decides that Hashem had a reason that he witnessed this argument about gaava and goes to the local Rabbi and says tht he is not deserving to be a butcher any more. Father of the young mystic visits the old mystic to apologize, but the old one forgives it, saying that his words could be indeed interpreted as gaava, even as he just wanted to correct the facts.

    – one family of Nachum who had a small business in a small town, who got married to a widow Devorah with a kid from a big city of Minsk. While in Minsk, Devorah was taught Tanach by her father and, after becoming a widow, she was teaching local women. After moving to her husband, Devorah was appalled how women of Vitebsk (?) did not know any Torah and was teaching them, while also taking charge of her husband’s business. Nachum was happy that the wife took charge and went into full time learning on his own. Devorah started quoting him Gemoras (sic!) that we discuss here explaining that it is not good for him to only learn, but he refused to take part in the business. Unbeknownst to her husband (!), Devorah was just starting learning Shas second time. (this is not clear how one can learn Shas in Aramaic without any help or internet, maybe her father taught her more than Tanach). She then figured out how to involve Nachum – she said that she has her books done showing all income, but he needs to compute the maaser. so, he gets involved, and they sponsor several kids going to a yeshiva somewhere, who then return and Torah starts flourishing in the town. The story ends with a tragedy for Nachum that you can find out if you read the sefer (no condemnation of Devorah’s gemora learning or interfering with husband’s studies implied, as far as I can tell).

Rabboisai I have read some of the responses and have a big tavah to respond back, but in all honesty I have already expressed evreything I need to, I would like to adress menachem shmei and mention two things 1) there are many thoughts I have as to why it’s appropriate for me to say how bad ywn is on the website of ywn but I’m not interested in the shakla vatarya that will ensue, 2) even if I were a hypocrite just like the person protesting being at the beach, while he’s on the beach with the sign, the person with the sign is correct about what he’s saying even if he’s qoute unquote a “hypocrite” his message is still true, so too I am willing to suffer your accusation of being a hypocrite even though I feel I am not, but my message is clear and message is still true ywn is bad

Now rabbosai I have brought proofs, and links to chats in the coffee room which show the ahavah between the coffee room members females to males and vice versa I have brought basic proofs from the Torah i have brought basic proofs of seichel, I have fought back against silly pushaback that I have gotten to prove that not just hashkaficlly but halchicly also this is wrong, I have mentioned a new reason which is the connection and may I say chibah that is shown between men and woman (some married) on this site

And in conclusion I want to bring a kol korei from gedolim I found today and show evreyone that not just is ywn wrong according to our gedolim, but ywn has refused to cooperate and continue to post garbage and shtusim on this site here’s the link and I urge all of you to drop this website with all its issurim and hashkafic issues,
And if you want to find chiyus try to see what is blocking you from a meaningful relationship with Hashem and work on it and try to connect to him and get chiyus from
Him because that is the only chiyus that lasts, THE ONLY

In October of 2011, on the week of Parshas Noach. The country of Turkey was hit by a major-7.2-Earthquake that resulted in hundreds of deaths, thousands injured & hundreds of buildings destroyed. It happened in the region of Turkey known as the Ararat Province, which research says, is where the taiva of Noach came to rest as the mabul (flood) subsided. In this part through many generations thousands of jews thrived in Turkey, with shuls, of which almost nothing remains today. Some shuls remain empty, standing isolated in the city of the Van region, which is the city of Charan, where Terach lived with Avraham until he moved to Eretz Yisroel. What is the message from Hashem? Todays judaism in Turkey is totally isolated, if we don’t do תשובה as soon as possible, other countries will be destroyed of jews C”V & become isolated.

Today’s tragic wake up IN ACTION HAPPENING NOW call message sent directly from Hashem upstairs to klal yisroel only 2 weeks ago that was no coincidence.

    Message:

World War 1, World War 2 And the Current War of the Invasion of Russia into Ukraine which can Chas Vshalom bring the world today to another world War 3 if we don’t wake ourselves up to serious Teshuva and Achdus together ASAP

All 3 Wars if you put the numbers of the date each war started they all come out to the same Gematria numerical Value number of 68

    World War 1 started on
    July 28 1914
    That’s 7+28+19+14=68

    World War 2 started on
    September 1 1939
    That’s 9+1+19+39=68

Current Russian invasion to Ukraine War started on
    February 24 2022
    That’s 2+24+20+22=68

Do you know what’s the Numerical Value of 68? Chaim/Life and what is the Message from Hashem? Hashem runs the entire world from every country to every tiny city to every person and it’s all in the Power and Hands of Hashem the decree of every person like we say on Rosh Hashanah every year Lchaim Vlo Lamavess. (To life and not vice versa to death Chas Vshalom)

Do you think this is all just coincidence that ALL 3 WARS come to the same gematria numerical Value when you put their starting dates together? Or do we all know the truth in life that “THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS COINCIDENCE” and everything has a direct wake up message from Hashem.

Do you think you can find this message in any Sefer in the world or any Gadol Hador speaking said this? This War is in middle of happening now and if we don’t wake up from denial and accept Hashems wake up call for serious Teshuva and Achdus ASAP who knows what this war can become C”V. we don’t need a world war 3 C”V

Any gematrios on goyish dates is a coincidence and Sam Klein if I were you, I would stop this. I think what you are doing is worse than what Moish is complaining about. You are ovar on שם אלהים אחרים לא ישמע על פיך by elevating the a’z. Our months are counted by Jewish dates. The Torah does not recognize any goyish months. I would not make any gematrios on Kapitals (chapters) which is used as reference only as it was created by the goyim.

Whoever doesn’t have a smartphone and is not online for downtime, kol hakovod to them.

I am also surprised that there are ads featuring women on YWN, and I find it especially revolting when I see the ads with women on YWN WhatsApp group because it’s so untznius. I also find the nivul peh recently posted in one of the YWN news article very, very revolting.

I also still feel guilty for being choished 2 people here on the CR for being the same person, and giving them mussar but it could be I was right and they are one person….

Regarding posting in the CR, talking to other anonymous people does not make me “feel closer to them”. Perhaps other people feel like that but I don’t think you can be closer to anyone you have no clue who they are. I have no clue whether halachically it’s wrong to be here, but I am definitely of the opinion it’s better to not be on the internet at all.

One thing that being here helped me was that I am able to stop arguing and not endlessly try to prove that I’m right. After arguing endlessly about covid regulations and covid poison shots I realized I can just say my thing and move on. This understanding that I don’t need to win an argument with another person also helped me a lot in real life.
