I’m happy to report that I stayed in Borough Park (please note the correct spelling) this past Shabbos and was thrilled to find an overwhelming majority of folks on the street actually wishing me a “Good Shabbos” either before I could or in response to my wishes. I don’t think we can any longer blame the B.P. natives for being distant and unwelcoming. It was a real pleasure to witness this.

By the way, there is no letter “D” in Fiftieth or Fortieth streets.

They must have mistaken you for a 5th cousin or sibling’s brother-in-law. Happens when you have 30+ of each.

I, on the other hand, WOULD have greeted you, as one CR memeber to another.

But outsiders? No, there has been no change in policy.

And its spelled Boro. Only the outsiders spell it Borough.

    < eyeroll >… what an OOT’er!)

Tell me what you look like so that I’ll know to greet you when we meet up.

” so that I’ll know to greet you when we meet up. “

Simple. I’m the one who greets you, whether we know each other or not.

But only if you’re a guy, or an 80+ year old woman with a outladish hat and /or doiley (outrageous feathers are a bonus).

Otherwise, female CR members get the greetings from Mrs. (CR or not, rules are rules)

Good point. Perhaps, because I’m on the inside, I’m not noticing the change that others are seeing.

    “That’s true.”

DO you mean you’re actually agreeing with me? What’s going on here?!

    bpt

    “Good point.”

And I appreciate your ability & flexibility to hear others and not remain rigid in thinking.

Thank you. I can assure you, it does not come naturally, but I worked on it, and continue to do so, each day. Some topics are harder than others, but I try.

Becoming flexible and not rigid is a hard mida to change, but kudos to you for working on it and getting there! It showed in your post. I give you a lot of credit.

Regarding divulging personal information, remember your comment here?!

    And then there’s this:

    Personal Info

1 – Please don’t try to pry out personal information. Any questions or comments directed towards trying to “figure out” a blogger’s identity will not be tolerated.

One may ask, one has the right to feel comfortable to answer or not. I’m still newish (to quote kapusta) around town, so I’m more comfy keeping my anonymity.

I don’t know much about you, either.

How is it that you don’t have a profile page listed with your threads?

There’s a difference between saying you go to X school and are studying for X and saying Im a guy/girl live in borough park/flatbush.

If someone doesn’t mind using their name then obviously they don’t want anonymity. Although many people make up names on forums.

“How is it that you don’t have a profile page listed with your threads?”

How is this technically done, for those of us who are newish, IIMA (kapusta, you’re being referenced again!)

    WIY

Could you please clarify how you’re differentiating between the two pieces of personal information. Tx.

    #806401

    bpt isnt his actual screenname

the profile can be found under the original screenname

I was asking about WIY’s profile, not bpt’s.

And how do newish people know the original screen name?

    Thanks in advance

    #806403

    oh

the same answer applies to wiy

newish people would not know the original sn, unless oldish people told them.

My theory as to the friendliness is that this was Labor Day weekend. The ones who were left in town (those who don’t go to the “country” for the summer or go away for the weekend) are the friendly ones. The others…

    #806408

    “unless oldish people told them.”

as you should know the use of the word “unless” makes the phrase conditional, meaning depending on other conditions it may or may not be fulfilled.

If someone says they are a guy who lives in boro park that doesn’t give away that much private info that would enable one to figure out who you are considering how many frum guys live in BP. If you said you go to Bayis Yakov plonis and are in the 8th grade and so and so is your teacher then yeah it won’t be too tough to figure out who you are for someone who may know you or knows that class. Farshtei?

“the profile can be found under the original screenname”

    Meaning, what BPT stands for?

Or the data in my profile like shoe size, favorite ice cream flavor, pet’s name, ect.

(Gosh, I’m not even sure what is listed, let alone how to look it up.)

    (kapusta, you’re being referenced again!)

I think this may be my new favorite thread.

In some of the older posts/threads you can figure out some original SN’s.

(Gosh, I’m not even sure what is listed, let alone how to look it up.)

When you log in, click on welcome, bpt and you can look at the threads you started and the ones you commented on.

The Frumguy; 1) Borough Park can be spelled both ways. With, or without the UGH. Just because “Spell Check” doesn’t like it, doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. Anyway. The Heimishe way is the right way.; 2) the reason all the people you said “Gutt Shabbos” to, answered back, is, because those that look at you like a space alien when you say Gutt Shabbos were up in the country. Report back next week. I’m just kidding. Boro park is a very friendly place. At least I am. (Not a place.)
